SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - People looking to sell their home may be leaving thousands of dollars on the table by not renovating before listing, mainly because money is tight during the Coronavirus pandemic.Now, a San Diego-based company wants to help.Renovating Lives will pay for renovations up front to increase the value of a home before it sells."A lot of the people that we help are in horrible financial situations," says CEO Greg May. "They're they're they're stuck with being taken advantage of by vulture investors."May's company works with the homeowners on a renovation plan and then covers the costs.Homeowners pay the company back when the house sells, along with financing and administrative fees."There are 10s of thousands of properties out there that need work, that are deferred maintenance or just dated," says May. "If people had to sell them as is, they would be leaving 10s of thousands of dollars on the table."May says his company can typically increase a home's value by an average of 5,000.That's what happened with owner Bill Stutzer. After his wife passed away, he wanted to sell his 5-bedroom home as is, listing for around 0,000.But a smaller house across the street sold for nearly 5,000 after some renovations. Stutzer didn't know what to do with his home until he called Renovating Lives."I didn't want to do anything," he says. "I was just going to leave my house, as is, and try and sell it, and soon realized that wasn't going to I wasn't going to cut it... It turns out that if you put a little bit upfront and and get some things done it, it magnifies the bottom line."May's company helped Stutzer redo his home from the inside out, with new flooring, paint, doors, lighting and more. He says its best to take advantage of the housing market while it's still high."Don't wait until it's too late, until they burn through their nest egg, and they're in foreclosure and their credit's being hurt," he says. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - On Monday, San Diego County supervisors met privately to discuss options if the county is moved back into the most restrictive tier.Although the meeting is taking place behind closed doors, it's not stopping them from sharing their frustrations publicly.At a press conference on Monday morning, Supervisor Nathan Fletcher called the actions of two of his fellow board members reckless and irresponsible."Supervisors Jim Desmond and Kristin Gaspar are inciting a fight between government and small business," Fletcher stated. “They are exploiting the pain and suffering the small businesses are going through as a result of the global pandemic as a wedge for political gain."Responding to the statements made at the press conference, Supervisor Kristin Gaspar said that she's never supported an approach to reopening that was not supported by the Public Health Officer and clinical leadership team.In a statement, Gaspar wrote, "Supervisor Fletcher knows this but prefers to continue spreading this false narrative because he is actively running a campaign against me. I measured the distance between our office doors, and it is 7 feet, so he and I can actually have a socially distanced conversation anytime he isn't holding a press conference."The public display of animosity comes as supervisors continue to discuss different options, including taking legal action against the state, to prevent potentially sliding back into the most restrictive risk level.Fletcher is against any potential legal action; Gaspar is for it.A spokesperson from Supervisor Jim Desmond's office said Desmond is weighing the options and waiting to hear any potential ramifications.On Monday, Supervisor Dianne Jacob told 10News, "I will do what is legally possible and where we are on solid legal ground. We do have a good solid legal option here."Jacob said the colleges and universities have a choice whether to allow students back on campus and hold in-person classes. She explained businesses have no choice, and she will fight to keep them open.A spokesperson for Supervisor Greg Cox told ABC 10News they wouldn't comment before the closed-door meeting.Legal actions by citizens and government entities against the state aren't uncommon.ABC 10News has reported on businesses and churches suing Gov. Gavin Newsom.At the end of July, the Orange County Board of Education voted to file a lawsuit against Gov. Newsom and the California Public Health Officer to seek a court order that sets aside the state orders preventing public schools from holding in-person classes and resuming services on campus."There's precedent from before the pandemic and during the pandemic for the county and other local governments to file suit against the state government to try to get the courts to weigh in on who holds the reins," said Lindsay Wiley, Professor of Law at American University Washington College of Law.Wiley said if the county did file a lawsuit, it's likely the courts would defer to the governor based on recent rulings."These cases are unpredictable and there's a fair bit of discretion left to the courts to decide these issues," Wiley said. "It's hard to say much given that we haven't seen what the complaint is that the county might bring but for the most part the general trend has been to uphold reasonable orders of this type." 3346

Nancy Sussman is no stranger to the courthouse. Usually, she’s representing her clients, but this time she’s defending herself against criminal charges that could send her to prison.Traffic backed up. Drivers snapping video of how the high speed chase ended. Police say Sussman finally stopped when they laid down spike strips. Still, they say she refused to come out of the car, eventually forcing them to smash out one of the windows.10News is learning new details about the woman behind the wheel of the white Mercedes. Sussman is a longtime medical malpractice attorney.RELATED: Woman arrested after leading police on chaseIn court Tuesday, she represented herself. “Are you an attorney,” the judge asked.The judge entered a not guilty plea on Sussman’s behalf. She’s charged with felony evading, driving with a suspended license and resisting arrest.Sussman tried to explain to the judge why she didn’t stop. “Regarding the chase, I was a victim of police brutality on October 28th.”According to a police report, the October 28 case involves Sussman and her neighbor, a Border Patrol agent. In that case, she’s charged with burglary, making criminal threats, vandalism and other charges.On December 30, police tried pulling her over on that warrant, finally arresting her after that chase on I-5.If convicted on the charges connected to the chase, Sussman faces more than six years in prison. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Neighborhoods near the Miramar Landfill are reporting a resurgence of awful odors they believe are coming from the landfill. "You come out the door in the morning and it just hits you," said Matty Wuest of University City. About a mile away, fellow resident Janis Deady concurs. "Like last night at in the morning," she says, "the smell woke me up out of a dead sleep." So, exactly what does it smell like? The distant neighbors are at no loss for words. "If you take the natural gas smell," said Matty, "Mix that with dog poop and vomit. That's what it smell like." Janis said she'd lived near the landfill for more than 20 years without an issue, but that changed about three years ago. "All of the sudden in the 2016 we started smelling putrid, disgusting, horrid smells."The distant neighbors say complaints in 2016 lead to hearings with the San Diego County Air Pollution Control District; resulting in fines for the City of San Diego and mitigation measures that appeared to solve the problem. But in recent weeks they say the smell is back."You shouldn't have to live like that," said Janis, "Not when we pay these taxes." A public information officer for San Diego said by phone the short story is the rain. That as soon as the Miramar Landfill has a chance to dry out from all the recent rains, the odors will dry up as well. But residents say that's not sufficient. "I hope the city would mitigate this and not blame it on the rain or other excuses." Said Matty. "Bottom line," said Janis, "It's got to stop. This is from 2016 to now. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - NASA's Mars-bound rocket launch from Southern California could leave San Diego gazers disappointed.Saturday's launch window could be blanketed behind a thick layer of morning fog, according to meteorologists. Vandenberg Air Force Base is forecasted to see partly cloudy skies through the morning hours.The fog, however, may not be enough to scrap the launch. InSight's launch director Tim Dunn said during a briefing Thursday that, "We got 'go's' from all aspects, all organizations that have a vested interest in launching InSight," Space.com reported.
