SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- It will take about a month to get the old Family Courthouse in downtown San Diego demolished and the area cleaned up, and once it’s gone, work will begin on what will replace it -- brand new affordable housing units.Piece by piece, the building that once heard divorce, custody, and other domestic issues was torn down. In its place will be a new eight-story building with 120 affordable housing units at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Cedar Street.While it’s been vacant, it was used as a temporary shelter for migrant families seeking asylum. Soon it will become home to senior citizens and other families.To be eligible for this affordable housing, a household must make less than 60% of the area median Income. For San Diego, according to the San Diego County website, it is less than ,000 for one person.County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said the location plays a big part in this project.“Everyone one wants affordable housing as long as it's not near them, but we know this is where housing needs to go. This location is in an urban environment in a downtown setting along transit corridors, walking distance to services is where we need to go,” Fletcher said.After the building is demolished, the next step in this project will be to get community input on the design of the unit. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Mission Beach residents and tourists could be getting some relief from dockless scooters speeding down the boardwalk as San Diego's summer season approaches.The Mayor's Office is working on an emergency ordinance banning electric scooters, like those used from services such as LimeBike or Bird, from the Mission Beach Boardwalk, from Crystal Pier south to the jetty."Residents have complained about [the] continued reckless use of motorized (electric) scooters along the Mission Beach Boardwalk. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Lime is warning riders of a problem with their deckles scooters that can cause “sudden excessive braking during use.”The company issued a safety update on Saturday, saying they had recently discovered a bug in the firmware of their scooters.They determined in some circumstances, the brake on the front wheel would be suddenly and automatically applied often after hitting an obstacle while riding downhill at high speeds.“While this issue has affected less than 0.0045% of all Lime rides, some riders have been injured,” wrote Lime in the safety update.That includes Paul Grasso, who says he was riding a Lime scooter on December 18 on Ingraham Street near Vacation Road in Mission Bay.He said he had just gone down the bridge and was making his way up a sidewalk ramp when the scooter’s wheels tightened up, sending him flying face-first into the pavement.“I spent five days in the hospital,” he said with a “broken nose, fractured skull, traumatic brain injury, fractured eye socket, ten stitches in my forehead and stitches on my nose.”10News reached out to Lime about Grasso’s crash but they said they couldn’t comment on rider specific questions.Lime has launched a fleet-wide firmware update to fix the braking bug. It should reach all of their scooters in the next few days, according to the company’s safety update.Until they have confirmed that all of their scooters have been updated, they have issued a list of precautions for riders:Before starting your Lime trip, walk around the scooter and do a visual inspection of the hardware. Is the vehicle body in good condition? If not, don’t use that vehicle; report it to our customer service team and then select another vehicle.Once you start your Lime trip, give the brake a tight squeeze. If the brake does not engage properly and immediately stop the vehicle, dismount, end the trip and notify Lime customer service.Use extra caution in the next few days while we issue the final firmware update -- especially when riding downhill. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Mixed Martial Arts fighter, Dean "The Boogeyman" Lister is asking the public to help him find a man he found inside his apartment. Lister, a Jiu Jitsu champion, has taken down opponents around the world - but he never expected a fight in his home. "I thought somebody was working in the apartment," he said, describing the man as covered in tattoos and wearing only a pair of boxers.Lister said the man wasn't making any sense, and soon Lister started to record him. In the video the man is heard saying that he went into the apartment because he thought it was a church. When the man realized that he was being record, Lister said he reached for a hammer - a moment that can be seen just before the video ends. Lister is a gun owner, and said he reached for his weapon when the stranger threatened him. At that point, the man got scared and Lister let him escape out the same window he broke in through. When police arrived, the man was gone. "I'm not trying to sound like any kind of saint," Lister said. "But whatever kind of money I lost, maybe it's not worth someone dying."Lister posted the video on Youtube and shared it with 10News in hopes that someone would recognize the intruder. "Hopefully he turns his life around," Lister said.   1327
