Does it get any better? To mark the occasion, County Animal Services is offering a Spring special - adoption fees for dogs and cats will be cut in half through Sunday, March 25. Dozens of animals are available at all three of the County's animal shelters and you can get a sneak peek at the pets available on the Animal Services website.Adoption fees include spaying or neutering, a microchip, free license, updated vaccinations and a free veterinary exam. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The eight-legged population is overrunning parts of Balboa Park a bit earlier than usual this year.Spider season is in full bloom in San Diego. From Rancho Penasquitos to downtown, people say they are finding webs just about everywhere including hiking trailsOne person wrote on a local Reddit thread they stopped hiking because there were so many webs.Chris Conlan works with San Diego County Vector Control and says there's nothing on usual with what folks are seeing.“They hatch out in the spring and they’re small and make very small webs,” said Conlan. "But as they begin to grow over the course of the summer and beginning of fall where we are right now, they’re much larger they tend to spin bigger webs and those are they kind of webs people walk into freak out and do the spider dance."Conlan says the webs people are bumping into on trails are likely orb weavers’. They are poisonous, but their venom is not toxic to humans like other spiders.“It’s really just the black and the brown widow that people need to worry about and they tend to spin more out of the way webs in corners and dark places," said Conlan. "They’re not the type of web you’re just going to go walking through."Conlan’s advice for folks’ encountering spider’s homes is as good anyone’s.“Carry a stick in front of you,” said Conlan with a laugh. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The California Department of Alcohol Beverage Control (ABC) made changes making it easier for businesses to sell alcohol.This week, the agency made major changes allowing restaurants to sell beer, wine and pre-mixed drinks or cocktails for pick-up or delivery as long as it is sold with food and has a secured top.While the changes will help many business owners, some San Diego bar owners say the ABC needs to take a look at other parts of the law as well."I know my seven employees are hurting, and I am too," said Tony Raso of Bar Sin Nombre.Raso said when the statewide order came down to close, he did. He has bar food he can sell, but where his problem comes in is with the beer that's already on tap."My struggle has been with all of the draft beer," he said. "We're primarily a draft house, and most of my money is in draft inventory."According to the ABC's website, restaurants "selling beer, wine, and pre-mixed drinks or cocktails for consumption off the licensed premises may do so when sold in conjunction with meals prepared for pick-up or delivery. Any such alcoholic beverages must be packaged in a container with a secure lid or cap and in a manner designed to prevent consumption without removal of the lid or cap."Raso said while he appreciates the relaxed restrictions, he's still sitting on at least ,000 in kegs he can't sell."Allow us to repackage the beer from the taps," Raso said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The fate of a local little league is up in the air after a string of costly break-ins dating back six months.At the Sunshine Little League fields off Federal Boulevard, it's not all sunshine and baseball joy."It's unfair, and I just don't like it," said Isaac Lopez, 11, who plays in the league.Two different break-ins were discovered over the weekend. Locks were broken and doors were pried open."It's upsetting. These kids don't deserve this," said league president John-Mario Pujol.The thief cleaned out the snack bar. Stolen from storage sheds: umpire gear and all of the equipment for the kids in the older division, including bats, helmets, gloves, and catcher's gear sets."It's just so petty. Kids are one thing that should be hands off. Stay away from messing with the youth," said Pujol.The break-ins are the latest in a series dating back six months, with more than six in all. In those cases, more equipment and food disappeared. In other incidents, homeless individuals have been found sleeping in the sheds. The total loss from theft and damage is nearly ,000. Pujol says for a low-income community, the loss is painful."We're hurting, in a tough position," said Pujol.The position is made tougher because of COVID-19. Fundraisers have been canceled.
