MACAO, Dec. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping said here on Friday evening that the prosperity of the Chinese mainland will provide tremendous opportunities and broad space for Macao's development.
Also, Xi called for more bilateral cooperation in such areas as financial service, information technology, energy conservation, environmental protection and bio-medicine.
He is expected to meet respectively with Sri Lankan Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne and Parliament Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa on Wednesday.
"And even more encouraging than all of that is the fact that young people from both sides are much more broadly and deeply engaged with each other, all the time," he said. "This is going to lay the foundations for peace among the next generation of ethnic Chinese."
"In the new historical period, the XPCC must play its part as a stabilizer of frontier security and stability, a melting pot of all ethnic groups, and a demonstration zone for advanced productive forces and culture," it said.
