SACRAMENTO, Calif (KGTV) -- Governor Gavin Newsom’s office recently put out a message telling Californians to wear their masks “between bites” at restaurants.“Going out to eat with members of your household this weekend,” a tweet from the Governor’s office asked.“Don't forget to keep your mask on in between bites. Do your part to keep those around you healthy,” the tweet continued.Going out to eat with members of your household this weekend? Don't forget to keep your mask on in between bites.Do your part to keep those around you healthy. #SlowtheSpreadhttps://t.co/snYe5v55Rw pic.twitter.com/Y4fcDO5Zke— Office of the Governor of California (@CAgovernor) October 3, 2020 People who saw the tweet quickly reacted.“Should we wash our hands after touching our mask each time we remove it between bites? What if I'm eating chips and salsa and I go for a double dip? Is that technically two bites since it's the same chip,” one Twitter user asked.“Put mask back on between bites? Is that a typo,” another asked. The state currently requires that people wear face coverings when in public spaces, indoors, and areas where physical distancing is not possible. 1165

RICHMOND, Va. -- Markeisha Harris-Minor is a young entrepreneur who has always considered herself to be a resource to people. And she has always wanted to do it, as she says, on a macro level. So, last December, she came up with an idea for a new app she calls Blocal Search. What is it?“This is a nationwide directory and app for locating Black-owned businesses all across the country," Harris-Minor, CEO of Blocal Search, said.Harris-Minor said she was constantly seeing the Black dollar recycle in front of her eyes. That’s why she said it was important for her to find an avenue that would allow the money to stay in local neighborhoods, especially in a moment in time where a demand to support Black businesses is on the rise.“Because we all know that buying Black right now, it’s something that’s important. It may look more trendy or what have you, but I want to make sure I’m pushing it to be a lifestyle, so just kind of changing that focus and perspective, like why am I really buying Black?” she said.Ajay Brewer, owner of Brewer’s Café on the city’s south side, added his business to Blocal Search this year.“I’ve had several people tell me that they’ve found me through Blocal, so any sort of search engine that creates that sort of awareness for us is really priceless. It’s created revenue for Brewer’s Café for sure," Brewer said.Harris-Minor said she has over 150 local businesses -- like restaurants, juice bars, beauty supplies, family dentistry, and more -- in the app.The number is even higher nationwide. Blocal has promoted about 4,000 companies across 160 cities since the app launched in February.“Blocal at minimum is going to be a directory, but this is going to be a brand that I’m building to really make sure that we’re able to have a sustainable community that we’ve had in the past and be able to create the generational wealth that we all are looking for our families,” she said.Blocal Search is available to download on your phone by going to your App Store or on Google Play. Rumors are spreading on Facebook that there will be a nationwide blackout enacted by the Department of Defense from Nov. 4 to Nov. 6.In one Facebook video, a woman says an electromagnetic pulse drill will occur and urges her viewers to prepare for it. "There will be a very huge blackout," she says. The claim of a blackout has also coincided with a conspiracy theory alleging that this blackout drill coincides with planned Antifa protests across the country. However, the claims are false.Snopes says DOD will conduct a "communications interoperability" training exercise from Nov. 4-6, simulating a "very bad day" scenario. The exercise will simulate power and communication outages across the grid, but there will be no actual outages.DOD has done this exercise every quarter since 2013. A representative says the average citizen will "not even know" this exercise is taking place. 911

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — The California state Senate has approved a measure that would guarantee all registered voters get a ballot in the mail before the November election. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom has already ordered ballots to be mailed. But Republicans have sued, arguing his order is illegal. The bill that cleared the Senate on Thursday is an attempt by lawmakers to make sure it happens anyway. Most California voters already vote by mail. Still, some Republican state senators opposed the bill because it would let election officials count mail-in ballots if they are received within 20 days of the election instead of three days. 651

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California's Democratic legislative leaders have reached an agreement on the state budget. The plan would cover the state's estimated .3 billion shortfall while avoiding most of Gov. Gavin Newsom's proposed budget cuts to public education and health care services. The agreement is similar to a plan the state Senate released last week. That plan avoids the most painful cuts by delaying billions of dollars in spending into future years. The agreement reached Wednesday includes more money for homeless services and universities. Senate President Pro Tem Toni Atkins says the plan ensures full funding for public schools. 659
