LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) — La Mesa Police Department released body camera footage on Wednesday showing the events that led up to an arrest video that surfaced last week.About 30 seconds of the video provide by police starts without any sound. LMPD Chief Walt Vasquez said the beginning of the video is muted because of the way the body camera is activated. (See the video above and below.)Raw footage of bodycam footage would be released for four officers involved in the arrest of Amaurie Johnson on May 27, according to La Mesa Mayor Mark Arapostathis.Last week, video surfaced showing an argument between Johnson and an officer escalate at the Grossmont Trolley Station. The officer is seen pushing Johnson into a sitting position onto a bench during the video. Eventually, Johnson is handcuffed and told he is being charged with assaulting an officer.Vasquez added that the officer involved in the video has been an officer for about three years. He added that while Johnson was initially stopped for smoking in a trolley area, he wasn't charged with that when he was arrested.Johnson also denied in a separate press conference after city officials spoke that he was smoking. (Press conference below.)“For that situation to escalate the way it did, and for the cop, you know, to stand firm in his beliefs that I should be detained or taken in with no prior evidence or reasoning, I think that should be seen by the people,” Johnson told Team 10 investigator Adam Racusin.He said he was waiting for his friend at the trolley stop, near a building where that friend lives. He added that the officer started questioning him and that he gave the officer the information that he wanted.Johnson adds that he didn't resist or assault anyone."I feel as though people that look like me, um, feel the same way I do and we're tired of it. We're tired of having to deal with stuff like that,” Johnson said.The video prompted the city to begin a special investigation into the incident and LMPD to place the officer involved on administrative leave pending the investigation. 2072

It's bigger than all of us," said Benjamin.MONEY WAS FLYINGSo the Willards are doing things a little different this Christmas."Looking back at everything we bought for the kids in previous years, it was almost like money was flying and they didn't understand the value behind it and where it came from," said Danielle.STOP & THINKSo mom and dad came up with a reasonable budget and gave the kids very specific categories for Christmas gifts: things you need, things you want, books and clothes."We had to help them through the choice. What do you do most with your time? What are your hobbies?" said Benjamin."It makes them stop and think, what's really important to them," said Danielle.HELPING OTHERSThey also added a spot for giving something to someone less fortunate."They were extremely excited to be able to help, especially when we explained not everybody's in the position we are," said Danielle.The Willards say this year's wish list is saving them a lot of money while helping them to reflect on what's important and counting their blessings.NOT BUYING AS MANY GIFTS"There are families that won't have a Christmas at all," said Danielle.Some people may feel an extra emotional burden from not being able to buy as many gifts for loved ones this year, but Psychotherapist Caitlin Carmody says there are other options."There are so many different ways we can show people love and affection. LEBANON, Tenn. (WTVF) — Rutherford and Wilson County deputies are investigating a report of a suspicious vehicle on Sunday afternoon.Deputies received a call about a white box truck parked at Crossroads Market around 10:30 a.m. The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said the box truck played audio similar to what was heard before an RV exploded in downtown Nashville on Christmas morning.WATCH LIVE:Officials said due to the investigation, Highway 231 from the Cedars of Lebanon State Park to Richmond Shop Road is shut down.As a precaution, nearby residents are being evacuated during the investigation into the truck.Officials said the driver of the truck traveled from Rutherford County into Wilson County, where he was stopped on Highway 231 by deputies and detained. 781

LAKESIDE (CNS) - A pedestrian was struck and killed Friday by a bus in the unincorporated community of Lakeside, near Santee.The crash was reported at 5:45 p.m. at 12250 Woodside Ave., according to the California Highway Patrol.Firefighters worked to save the pedestrian's life.
