(KGTV) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Department is searching for a man who disappeared from a care facility.The department tweeted just after 1 p.m. that 36-year-old Berhane Piong went missing from the facility on the 2220 block of Bosna Place in Vista.Piong has a developmental disability and has the living and decision-making skills of a 12-year-old, authorities say. He will only respond when called by Berhane.Piong was last seen wearing his favorite camouflage hoodie jacket, black sweatpants and blue sneakers.Anyone who spots him is asked to call 911. 586

VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) — Vista Unified School District is calling on the community to donate their new and used instruments. As they add new music programs, the goal is to get an instrument in the hand of every student. "I really feel music has the ability to save lives and it does," said Eric Weirather, Band Director at Rancho Buena Vista High School.Weirather has been organizing instruments coming in, and a recent donation took his breath away.RELATED: See how music is molded — for free — at El Cajon's Taylor Guitar factory“It was really unreal, like a kid in a candy store!" Weirather said.North Coast Church heard about the instrument drive and asked their worshipers to help, and they delivered.“They filled an entire room. I think they might be up to 1,000 instruments they've donated. Think about all the impact that will have on these kids for years to come.”They've received guitars, drums, flutes, ukuleles, tambourines, saxophones, keyboards and much more. VISTA, Calif. (KGTV) - A Vista family is crediting their 3-year-old French Bulldog with thwarting a burglar at the front door. Last Thursday, just past noon and eight minutes after Samantha Sanchez left her home on Olive Drive, she got an alert of noise near her door.When she got home, she saw her front door, busted and wide open."Felt violated. Disturbing," said Sanchez.A motion activated camera she had just installed to monitor her dog Harley - who suffers from epilepsy and is prone to frequent seizures - had captured part of what happened. On the video, the sounds of something being jammed into the door can be heard. Harley then starts to growl. The video stops and then skips 12 seconds. In the next images, Harley is seen sitting, staring at an open door. Sanchez believes the intruder never got inside because of her 30 lb. Frenchie."Thank God for Harley," said Sanchez.When it comes to Frenchies, there are snorter and non-snorters. Harley is definitely the former."You can see how he would be mistaken for a bigger, more aggressive dog just by how loud he is," said Sanchez.Sanchez cant help but smile when she thinks about what greeted the burglar at the door."Harley is my hero. He saved us," said Sanchez.His actions unfolded even though he may have needed the saving. A fresh urine stain that day meant he likely had a seizure during or after the break-in. But this hero wouldn't be stopped. "Harley got a new bed. Harley got a new toy and sausages. Harley gets whatever he wants now," said Sanchez.Sanchez says Harley will remain on alert. VISTA (CNS and KGTV) - A man accused of killing his 7-year-old daughter at the family's Oceanside home pleaded not guilty Tuesday to murder, assault and child cruelty charges.Pedro Araujo, 27, is charged in last Wednesday's slaying of Mariah Araujo. Police have not commented on the cause of her death, but the criminal complaint indicates that a knife was used.Mariah was stabbed at least 10 times in the neck and upper body, prosecutors said. She also had defensive wounds from the attack.In addition to murder, the defendant is charged with assault on a child in regard to Mariah, and misdemeanor child cruelty involving her 6-year- old sister.RELATED: 7-year-old found dead in Oceanside home, father arrestedHe faces 26 years to life in prison if convicted of all charges.The children's grandmother made an emergency call shortly after 11 a.m. to report that she had just gone to the family's house in the 3500 block of Las Vegas Drive to pick up Mariah and her sister but had been unable to find the older girl, Oceanside police spokesman Tom Bussey said.The woman reported that her son -- the girls' father -- had been evasive about the whereabouts of his elder daughter and had blood on him, Bussey said.Officers went to the residence near Emerald Isle Golf Course and searched it, finding the victim's body in a bathroom. Detectives questioned Araujo and took him into custody on suspicion of murdering his daughter, Bussey said.Araujo's arraignment was initially scheduled for last Friday, but was postponed twice because he was being held in ``enhanced observation housing,'' according to court staff.Members of the girl's family gathered at the Vista courthouse last Friday and told reporters that Araujo was unstable and should not have been anywhere near his daughters.Karina Avina, Mariah's aunt, said Araujo did not have custody of the children as numerous Child Protective Services cases were open and ongoing against him, though the circumstances of those cases was unclear.``We want him to pay the max. That's what we want,'' Avina said. ``We don't want a few years. We don't want him to get out. He needs to pay his whole life.''Araujo is being held without bail.
