Duncan Hunter issued a statement which reads:"I do not have the full details of Margaret’s case, but it's obvious that the Department of Justice (DOJ) went after her to get to me for political reasons. As Margaret’s case concludes, she should be left alone. I am the Congressman, this is my campaign and any further attention on this issue should be directed solely to me. The DOJ’s prosecutorial actions in this case were led by local U.S. Attorneys who attended Hillary Clinton fundraisers in violation of the Hatch Act. The fact remains that this entire matter should have been handled by the Federal Elections Commission (FEC). The DOJ purposely choosing to involve itself in the area where the FEC has primary jurisdiction reveals that their primary agenda was to inflict as much political damage as possible in hopes of picking up a congressional seat. It was politically-motivated at the beginning, it remains politically-motivated now."A trial date was set for September 10, 2019, but that is expected to change following this morning’s court appearance. A conviction would not force Hunter out of office. It takes a two-thirds house vote to do that, meaning 55 Republicans would have to move the same. San Diego Political Analyst John Dadian said he believes Hunter would be expelled if convicted. He added President Trump could pardon him, but it would likely be after the 2020 election. Meanwhile, he said East County Republicans are preparing to file to run if they see an opening. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Lifeguards say a swimmer who disappeared early Saturday in Pacific Beach has been found safe.San Diego Lifeguards say four friends went into the ocean around 1:30 a.m. across from the Ocean Blvd. and Garnet Ave. beach entrance. But one of the friends did not return, prompting searches throughout the morning by U.S. Coast Guard and lifeguard crews.Later Saturday, the missing person was located safe at a friend's house, the Coast Guard told 10News.The swimmer was reportedly celebrating his 21st birthday at the nearby Waterbar before the group went for a swim, according to San Diego Lifeguard Lieutenant Rich Stropky.Though the group told lifeguards the water was only waist deep in the area they were swimming, the swimmer somehow became separated. The person's clothes, wallet, and phone were also left behind when the group returned to shore, Stropky said.Saturday morning, a U.S. Coast Guard cutter and helicopter assisted in the search. 972

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Locally and nationally, the calls are growing louder for some immigrant detainees to be released. In 2018, Kazakhstan native Satbay Kydyrali, 31, made his way to a local border crossing "He crossed border, turned himself in and asked for asylum," said Almas Irgebayev, Kydyrali's brother.Irgebayev says the asylum claim was denied and is now under appeal, a decision that could be years away. Meanwhile his brother continues to being held at Otay Mesa Detention Center. "Last three days, I was just crying when I think about him," said Irgebayev.Irgebayev says his brother is coughing, and in a cell with 7 other men. They are less than two feet apart, and most of the other men are also coughing. His brother told him none of the staff is wearing masks, and the detainees clean their own cell twice a day. The two brothers talk on the phone every day."He says that he wants to get out. I was crying on the phone. I heard him crying as well," said Irgebayev.Irgebayev is fearful because his brother is at-risk. He contracted tuberculosis as a child and has developed chronic breathing issues."I'm in a panic. I am feeling very bad, because I'm helpless," said Irgebayev. Similar sentiments were on display at a socially distant, vehicle protest near the federal courthouse downtown. Immigrant advocates were asking for at-risk detainees to be released. On the same day, members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus called on Homeland Security officials to release low-priority detainees.In a statement, a DHS spokesperson says they're following CDC guidelines for disease monitoring and management protocols.' Irgabayev believes that statement doesn't reflect reality."I'm just afraid he is going to die in there," said Irgebayev.Irgabayev says his brother is in day three of a hunger strike protesting the conditions. The number of detainees on the hunger strike has shrunk from 90 to eight since the first day.An employee at the Otay Mesa Detention Center has tested positive, the first employee so far, according to prison company CivicCore.
