China hopes the "double suspension" proposal could get understanding and support from relevant parties.
"With the increasingly interwoven interests between China and the United States, a trade war will lead nowhere and neither side will win," Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying said at a regular news briefing.
He called for further efforts to advance the trial-centered reform of criminal procedures as well as reforms in the fields of public security, state security, and judicial administration.
In their talks on Tuesday, the two foreign ministers discussed a slew of topics, including anti-terrorism, anti-illegal drugs, infrastructure, economy and trade, people's wellbeing, defense, arts and culture.
Together, the two countries should step up regional cooperation and push forward the building of a Free Trade Area of the Asia-Pacific, Xi said.
