Intel will still be able to develop modems for non-smartphone applications, such as PCs and autonomous vehicles.The deal still must undergo regulatory approval, but both companies said it's expected to close in late 2019.The acquisition will give Apple more of a role in developing key parts of its smartphones at a time when iPhone sales are faltering as devices last longer and people have stopped replacing them as frequently. The smartphone-modem chips allow phones to connect to wireless data networks.In April, Intel said it would no longer make 5G modems for smartphones, citing "no clear path to profitability and positive returns" in the business. Going forward, it will continue to work on other products related to 5G.Separately, Intel reported second quarter results on Thursday that beat analyst projections for both revenue and earnings. From 2013 to 2017, the Wall Street Journal reports that 56 percent of people who moved to Henderson came from neighboring California."They're getting houses that they could never afford in California," said Zar Zanganeh, "houses that are on golf courses."Zanganeh is the owner and broker of LUXE Estates & Lifestyles. He's personally witnessed the California migration. A decade ago, roughly a third of his clients were from California. Today, that number is closer to 70 percent.Zanganeh says Californians are cashing out the equity from their homes and buying a home in Nevada in cash.Outside of the Henderson DMV on Wednesday, 13 Action News spoke with several California transplants.The Robinson family has 13 children. They moved to the state because of the lower cost of living and employment opportunities. At any moment, the calmness in the critical care unit at Swedish Medical Center can change to something intense.“We bring people back to life,” said Emily Belfoure, a nurse there. She said they are caring for people who have been in major car crashes, had cardiac arrests, recent open heart surgeries — people with huge medical need.She called it amazing … but challenging.“The families are very emotional, and so you kind of take on some of that stress as a secondary type trauma,” she said.Belfoure decided to start a group for her team to debrief after a traumatic event. The goal is for folks to express their feelings about what they just went through and to cope with the stress of such intense experiences.She wants to help prevent burnout.“There's kind of like a four -or five-year mark in nursing where people either can deal with the burnout they learn coping mechanisms or they find a different job,” she said.The World Health Organization now recognizes burnout as an occupational phenomenon. It’s described as a syndrome resulting from chronic workplace stress.WHO says there are three major symptoms: Feeling exhausted or depleted of energy, being mentally disconnected from or cynical about one’s job and problems getting the job done successfully.“It's something that we don't want to just ignore,” Belfoure said.Dr. Monique Butler is the chief medical officer at Swedish and says burnout can take a toll on health.“It can cause a number of different additional symptoms including chest pain shortness of breath and it could really manifest itself into physical symptoms,” she said.The doctor advises acknowledging symptoms, talking to trusted people and seek professional advice if necessary.Have the debriefing meetings, Belfoure said, has made a big difference for people working there.“It's kind of more of a team and more of a family than just you alone taking care of these challenging patients and dealing with this by yourself,” she said. 1974
