CHICAGO, Ill. – The City of Chicago will soon implement under another stay-at-home advisory as it seeks to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The city’s mayor, Lori Lightfoot, announced Thursday that the advisory will go into effect on Monday, Nov. 16 at 6 a.m.Lightfoot says the advisory will call on the people of Chicago to stay at home unless for essential reasons, stop having guests over – including relatives they don’t live with, avoid non-essential travel, and cancel “traditional” Thanksgiving plans."Residents are advised to only leave home to go to work or school, or for essential needs such as seeking medical care, going to the grocery store or pharmacy, picking up food, or receiving deliveries," the city wrote. The city says the advisory will remain in place for 30 days or until the commissioner of health, Dr. Allison Arwady, determines a change in the guidance is appropriate. The new advisory comes as the city and many parts of the country experience the highest coronavirus case rates since the pandemic began. Lightfoot says data shows the city is seeing an average of at least 1,900 cases per day."If we continue on the path we’re on and don’t step up to do the things we know work, we estimate we will lose 1,000 more Chicagoans to this virus by the end of the year," said the mayor.Lightfoot says the stay-at-home advisory is part of a new strategy called “Protect Chicago,” which she describes as a comprehensive effort that includes new regulatory actions, neighborhood street-level activations and citywide public awareness.Watch the mayor's announcement below: 1598

CAMERON PARISH, La. – Hurricane Laura made landfall along the Louisiana coast, specifically near the community of Cameron. Not much information has come out from there, in part because several of the roads that lead down there remain flooded. Highway 27, one of the main roads in and out of the communities of Creole and Cameron, is covered in water.A deputy with the sheriff’s office said they had not been able to return to their station in Cameron. They left Wednesday before the storm. The roads are barely passable there – in order to get to an elevated bridge on 27, drivers need to use a gravel shoulder between the main road and the waterway that runs next to it. About 12 miles from the shore, the road begins to flood. It can be a little deceiving here in coastal Louisiana because the coast is made up of bayous and marshes. Some people have taken it upon themselves to bring their personal boats in an attempt to get to some of those communities along the coast. The sheriff’s office said some people did ride out Hurricane Laura in some of those coastal communities, but communications have been spotty at best. As for the roads, the water will need to recede, before the recovery there can truly begin. 1220

CARLSBAD, Calif. (KGTV) -- If "Toy Story" were real, it might have looked like Sue and Stephen Stewart's rooftop."I thought a few people would notice, but no, they now come by constantly," described Sue Stewart. It all started when Sue and her husband Stephen wanted to bring smiles and joy to their neighborhood amid COVID-19, while they worked from home."He saw something on the internet similar and he thought this is what I'm gonna do. He ordered all of them and then we had to figure out 'How am I going to get them up on the roof?'"Little did they know their small investment would equal something big."I went to get the mail and these people go, 'That is the best thing ever.' You have no idea what an impact he's making. He's making people smile," Sue said about her husband's work.Kids weren't the only ones eager to get a glimpse of their favorite characters."It's couples, it's adults. There's two ladies that walk by every single day and check it out every single day."Every other week was a different scene and sometimes, someone new."We didn't have the aliens so we got the aliens and moved them one time. We moved the position of Buzz and Woody and got Little Bo-Peep in," Sue described. They moved the figurines safely with fishing line. Sue said they chose Toy Story because of it's message that we're all in this together. 1346

CA?ON CITY, Co. -- The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park has been a place providing natural beauty and adrenaline rushing rides for 91 years.“It’s history,” said Chad Harris, who works at the admissions desk. “It’s one of the most iconic places in the United States, and I feel honored to work here.” Harris said the park has been a special part of his life. He was an intern at the park several years ago and then came back to work full-time.“My family worked here, my brother, my sister my mom,” Harris said. “I wanted to come back to this place and have a career here.” But seven years ago, Harris watched decades of memories go up in flames. The Royal Gorge Bridge and Park was destroyed by a wildfire. The bridge was nearly all that was left. The heartbreak of the fire—only preparing Harris and his team for the challenges that COVID-19 would bring.“I honestly thought the fire was the worst thing that could happen to us,” said Peggy Gair, who manages public relations for the park.Gair has been with the park for more than 20 years and said the virus was a new strain of devastation.“Never in my wildest dreams did I think we’d be closed for that many weeks, the two and a half months that we were,” Gair said. She said the fire was different—the park had insurance and was prepared to rebuild. No one could have prepared them for the pandemic.Just before the pandemic hit, employees spent dozens of hours and thousands of dollars hiring 30 new employees. Days later, they had to let everyone go, and now, the process to rehire is more complicated than ever before.Gair is signed up for a new way to find workers: a live, virtual job fair. She’s hoping to fill dozens of open positions around the park. Some of those jobs have been available since last year, and now, Gair believes the extra 0 a week in unemployment benefits is playing a role in keeping people from applying.“There’s jobs available,” Gair said. “People aren’t excited to go back to work. They want to wait.” Gair is hoping that after July 31, more people will come to her park looking for work.Despite the struggle, Gair said she looks at the park today like she did in 2013—as a beacon of hope. As long as this park stands, the people will follow.“We just have to tighten the belt, pull ourselves up by the bootstraps and keep going forward,” said Harris. If you'd like to work at Royal Gorge Bridge and Park, you can find information here. 2420
