Deputies Nicholas Morgan and Joshua Nahan are charged with assault for what District Attorney Summer Stephan calls illegal actions during the encounter. Gerardo Martinez Jr. and his father were taken into custody last May after the deputies responded to a domestic violence call. Martinez Jr. was repeatedly struck in the head by Deputy Morgan while on a concrete sidewalk. “Law enforcement officers hold a position of trust in our community and are required to abide by the rules in the exercise of their powers. The evidence on which the charges are based shows the force used by the two deputies exceeded the legal line, violating that public trust. For justice to thrive, it is important that no one is above the law,” Stephan said in November. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego LGBT Community Center (The Center) has decided it will no longer allow armed, uniformed officers at its facilities and events. “Last year, The Center heard from over 140 Black community members at our Town Hall for the Black LGBTQ Community. Many spoke of the pain and hurt that is caused when one does not feel welcome in our LGBTQ community, including at The Center.Overwhelmingly, we heard that the lack of policy restricting the presence of armed, uniformed law enforcement officers is a barrier to the Black LGBTQ community feeling welcomed at The Center,” said CEO Cara Dessert in a letter posted to The Center’s website. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - To protect his best friend, a Sabre Springs man found himself in a brawl with a bobcat. Bobby Abrams, a 78-year-old Vietnam veteran, said it happened Saturday morning while walking his dog Sammy. The Navy veteran is in tiptop shape; he does hundreds of push-ups a day and goes on walks up to 14 miles. "Oh yea, he was snarling, arggggg, like that!" remembers Abrams. RELATED: Woman spots bobcat lurking through backyard in 4S RanchAbrams was walking on Ted Williams Parkway when he says the bobcat appeared and quickly attacked Sammy, biting him in the neck. Abrams quickly pulled the bobcat off, grabbing it by the throat and slinging it back and forth. He ultimately broke the animal's neck, killing it. Abrams was left with puncture wounds on his hands. He says he had to defend his dog and would do it again if he had to. He says their close relationship began when Abrams rescued Sammy from an abusive situation; he says they both have PTSD. "I love that dog as much as I love my momma. I love that dog, the Navy, and my momma!" said Abrams. A spokesperson says bobcats are not unusual in that area but are usually nocturnal. They speculate the animal might not have gone out that night due to bad weather and instead went out during the day.If you find yourself in a similar situation, wildlife officials say stand your ground and try to pull the animal away. They recommend avoiding going out at night when coyotes and bobcats are out. It's also advised to make loud noises and throw objects, like a rock, at the animal to try and scare it off. Officials say bobcats are typically fearful of humans. 1885

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thousands of SDG&E customers were left in the dark in Central San Diego, as an power outage hit late Wednesday.The outage affected about 5,800 customers in the Sorrento Valley, Mira Mesa, and Scripps Ranch areas just after 5 p.m., according to SDG&E's outage map. Those still without power dropped to about 1,900 customers by about 6 p.m.It's unclear what caused the outage. Crews were assessing the issue and estimated power would be restored by 8 p.m. up to 9:30 p.m. in some areas.Other outages were also reported in the Oceanside and Poway areas around the same time as well. SDG&E estimates power to be retored to those areas around 8 p.m. as well.10News is monitoring this breaking news. 728
