Prescription drug ads are on every channel, and with them come the laundry list of side effects tacked on at the end of every TV spot. Now, in addition to listing those side effects, you could soon be hearing about the costs.A new proposal from the Trump administration would force manufacturers to state a drug's list price in any TV advertisement. It was a goal first laid out by Human and Health Services Secretary Alex Azar back in May."If we wanna have a real market for drugs, why not have them disclose their prices in the ads too?” asked Azar. “Consumers would have more balanced info and companies would have incentives for setting their prices…"Experts on drug pricing, like John Hopkins University's Gerard Anderson, say it’s about time."If you’re buying a TV, they'll tell you what a TV costs. If the grocery store’s having a sale, they’ll say how much oranges cost. This is something that should be and is just long overdue in the pharma industry,” Anderson says.Pharmaceutical companies have pushed back via their trade group, which said that posting prices on TV could be "misleading or confusing.” Their proposal was to, instead, tell consumers that pricing information could be found on the drug's website."The problem is that most of us would never go to their website to look up that information,” Anderson explains. “And the FDA would have to monitor closely the info on their site and that could change daily. So, it’s really not a viable option."The proposal will be open for public comment for 60 days, and even if it goes into effect after that, industry experts say they're likely to face many legal challenges from the pharmaceutical industry. 1676

President Donald Trump claimed that up to 15,000 US troops could be sent to the border to deal with the group of migrants heading toward the US through Mexico."As far as the caravan is concerned our military is out, we have about 5,000-8 (thousand), we'll go up to anywhere between 10 (thousand) and 15,000 military personnel on top of border patrol, ICE and everybody else on the border," Trump told reporters Wednesday. The Pentagon has already announced 5,200 active duty troops are being sent to the border and has identified an additional 2,000 that could go. There are currently 2,100 National Guardsmen on duty at the border and an additional 2,000 could be called upon to go if needed.Shortly after Trump spoke, the Pentagon released a statement saying "The number of troops deployed will change each day as military forces flow into the operating area, but the initial estimate is that the DOD will have more than 7,000 troops supporting DHS across California, Arizona and Texas."The migrants, who are over 800 miles away from the US, are weeks away from arriving at the border where many reportedly plan to seek asylum.Trump also added that he is thinking "very seriously" and "immediately" of stopping aid to countries where people in the group of migrants are coming from."Nobody's coming in. We're not allowing people to come in," Trump said. "If you look at what happened in Mexico two days ago with the roughness of these people in the second caravan that's been forming, and also frankly in the first caravan, and now they have one forming in El Salvador. ... We are thinking very seriously, immediately stopping aid to those countries because frankly, they're doing nothing for the American people.""Immigration is a very, very big and very dangerous -- a really dangerous topic and we're not gonna allow people to come into our country that don't have the well being of our country in mind," Trump added.Trump also responded to a question on immigration saying, "I'm not fear mongering at all." 2019

President Donald Trump hit the campaign trail for the first time since his coronavirus diagnosis.Trump attended a rally in Sanford, Florida, on Monday, before thousands of supporters who were standing shoulder to shoulder. The majority of those in attendance were not donning face coverings, flouting public health recommendations. After the president boarded Air Force One for the flight to Florida, presidential physician Dr. Sean Conley confirmed that Trump has tested negative for the coronavirus and is no longer infectious.Trump declared himself “immune" from the coronavirus to his supporters on Monday.“Now they say I am immune. I feel so powerful. I’ll walk in there, I’ll kiss everyone in that audience,” Trump told supporters. “I’ll kiss the guys and the beautiful women and every mouth. I’ll just give you a big fat kiss.”Florida is a crucial state for Trump to win re-election. While Biden is leading in most major polls in the state, most polls show Biden’s lead is within the margin of error. Only one major poll, last week’s Quinnipiac survey, had Biden’s lead ahead of the margin of error.Meanwhile, Democratic nominee Joe Biden stumped in Cincinnati. Based on polling, Ohio has become a toss-up state after Trump won the state in 2016 by 8%. The five most recent presidential polls in Ohio showed the race within the margin of error. Three of the polls gave Biden a slight edge, one poll had the race tied, and another poll gave Trump a slight lead.Biden’s Ohio rally will be akin to a drive-in, with supporters spaced out in a parking lot.The backdrop of the rallies are amid a rise in coronavirus cases throughout the US. On Friday, Ohio reported its highest number of coronavirus cases in a single day with 1,840 confirmed infections. Florida though is among a handful of states seeing a decrease in cases following a summer surge. While cases are declining, coronavirus-related deaths have remained high in the state. All told, the coronavirus has claimed the lives of more than 15,000 Floridians.Voters have just 22 days to decide on a presidential candidate. 2089

President Donald Trump described Oprah Winfrey as "very insecure" and accused her of "biased and slanted" after an interview on CBS's "60 Minutes" that addressed his presidency.Oprah hosted a group discussion with 14 voters who had appeared on the show in fall 2017 -- half who had voted for Trump and half who had not.The discussion looked at whether the the pro-Trump panelists still backed the President, his alleged "s***hole countries" comments, the worldview of the US under his leadership, questions around Trump's stability and fitness for office, and accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior.""Just watched a very insecure Oprah Winfrey, who at one point I knew very well, interview a panel of people on 60 Minutes. The questions were biased and slanted, the facts incorrect. Hope Oprah runs so she can be exposed and defeated just like all of the others!" Trump tweeted after the show was broadcast. Just watched a very insecure Oprah Winfrey, who at one point I knew very well, interview a panel of people on 60 Minutes. PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Federal officers deployed tear gas and fired less-lethal rounds into a crowd of protesters in Oregon late Thursday. Video shows many protesters leaving the area near the federal courthouse in Portland as smoke filled the air. The actions came just hours after the head of the Department of Homeland Security called the protesters “violent anarchists.” Homeland Security Acting Secretary Chad Wolf says state and city authorities are to blame for not putting an end to the protests.Protests have taken place for nearly two months since the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis. President Donald Trump recently deployed federal agents to “quell” the demonstrations in Portland that began after George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police, shining an unwelcome spotlight as the city struggles to find a way forward. The national attention comes as divisions deepen among elected officials about the legitimacy of the more violent protests — striking at the heart of Portland’s identity as an ultraliberal haven where protest is seen as a badge of honor.Local officials say they didn't ask for help from federal law enforcement and want them to leave. 1189
