XICHANG, Sichuan, Sept. 5 (Xinhua) -- China successfully launched the "SinoSat-6" satellite for radio and television live broadcast at 12:14 a.m.Sunday from the Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest China's Sichuan Province.The satellite was carried on the Long March 3B rocket which took the SinoSat-6 into a geostationary transfer orbit 26 minutes after the launch.In the following days, Xi'an Satellite Control Center and Yuanwang tracking ship will manipulate the satellite's position and transfer it to enter the geostationary orbit.SinoSat-6 has a designed lifespan of 15 years and will eventually work at longitude 126.4 degrees east about 35,700 kilometers above the equator, said the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASTC), the satellite's researcher and producer.It will mainly serve for relaying TV and radio live broadcast signals and will greatly improve cultural life for people living in remote and mountainous regions, according to China Satellite Communications Corporation which will operate the satellite.China has launched the first SinoSat series satellite, SinoSat-1, in 1998. The SinoSat-2 was launched in 2006 but malfuctioned for it failed to deploy its solar panels and communication antennae.SinoSat-6 will serve as a substitute for SinoSat-3 which was launched on June 1, 2007, according to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

ROME, Oct. 7 (Xinhua) -- China and Italy enjoy a good foundation for cooperation and China would like to expand that to other areas such as trade and investment, environment and culture, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here Thursday. XIAMEN, Sept. 7 (Xinhua) -- China's foreign trade surplus was approximately 84 billion U.S. dollars from Jan. to July, down 20 percent year on year, and the year 2010 is expected to see a small trade surplus, said Commerce Minister Chen Deming on Tuesday.Chen made the projection at the ongoing World Investment Forum that runs from Sept. 7 to 9 in southeast China's coastal city of Xiamen.China has seen a trade surplus in recent years, but with a decreasing margin, and the trade surplus takes up a very small proportion of the GDP, noted Chen."China's foreign trade policy aims to stabilize exports and increase imports, which can boost China's economy and also bring positive impacts to neighboring countries," said Chen.Customs statistics show that China's import and export value in the first seven months reached 1,617 billion U.S. dollars, with exports worth 850.5 billion U.S. dollars, up 35.6 percent, and imports at 766.6 billion U.S. dollars, up by 47.2 percent.China's trade surplus in 2009 was more than 190 billion U.S. dollars, down 34.4 percent from the 290 billion U.S. dollars in 2008.The World Investment Forum is the global meeting on investment and development issues organized by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development. Held every two years, the forum aims to strengthen international cooperation in the interest of promoting international investment and its contribution to economic growth and development.

BEIJING, Oct. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's safety record has improved in the first nine months of 2010 with fewer accidents and deaths compared with one year ago, Luo Lin, director of the State Administration of Work Safety (SAWS), said Wednesday.From January to September this year, China reported 16,091 fewer accidents, or a decline of 5.8 percent over the previous year, while deaths caused by accidents were down by 5,869 in the same period, Luo said during a a national video conference regarding the country's work safety record.While Luo did not provide the actual figures of accidents or deaths caused during this period, he said: "Though we have made new progress in work safety, the total number of accidents is still too high and the accidents with heavy casualties and caused by illegal production activities were rising dramatically."According to SAWS, China's work safety death ratio per 100 million yuan (14.9 million U.S. dollars) of gross domestic product (GDP) was down 18.6 percent year on year to 0.21 during the January-September period. In other words, every 10 billion yuan of China's GDP will cause 21 deaths in the process of production.In addition, the death ratio per million tonne of coal output dropped 13.3 percent to 0.78 in the same period.According to the last figures released by SAWS in July, workplace accidents had killed 33,876 people in the first half of this year.
