A pharmaceutical that has already issued a recall for dozens of children's medications is expanding its recall to include more than a thousand additional medications for both humans and animals.The FDA reported earlier this month that King Bio had issued a voluntary recall for about 30 children's medications for a possible microbial contamination. A Milledgeville, Georgia boy was arrested on Friday when a gun discharged from the boy's backpack inside an elementary school, WMAZ-TV reported. The boy attends Lakeview Academy, a school for students in grades 3 through 5. The boy told investigators that he was unaware that there was a gun in his backpack, and that he had never seen the firearm before. The gun reportedly went off as he was going through his backpack in the back of the classroom. After authorities arrived at the school, he was placed under arrest. The boy is facing four charges, according to WMAZ: Carrying a weapon in a school zone; reckless conduct; disrupting or interfering with public school; and possession of a pistol by a person under 18. Baldwin County Sheriff's Maj. Scott Deason told WMAZ that the firearm was a stolen Smith & Wesson 9-millimeter. Deason told the Union Reporter that that student could not explain to investigators how he ended up with the gun.“They questioned the juvenile in the presence of his mother,” Deason told the Union Reporter. “The mother also stated she didn’t know how the gun got into her son’s book bag.”The Union Reporter added that the boy is not allowed back in school until after he goes through the court system. 1320

A school trip for the eighth grade Mentor, Ohio Public Schools students to Washington D.C. was set and ready to go. Students were excited, bags were packed, lots of money was paid. But on Tuesday — the day before the trip — Discovery Tours, the company contracted by the school district to handle the trip, canceled. What's 511 students multiplied by 5 each? That's 2,505 paid.Discovery Tours told Mentor Public Schools it had to cancel the trip because the company was unable to receive final confirmation for the hotel rooms. The school district said it contacted the hotel itself to get more information."We were told by hotel management that, under advice from the hotel's legal counsel, all they could disclose to us is: Discovery Tours was unable to meet the contractual obligations," Superintendent Bill Porter wrote in a letter to parents.However, the school district said Discovery Tours told them otherwise. America has an opioid problem and more mothers are struggling with sobriety.“At the height of my addiction, I could take anywhere from 20 or 30 Percocets a day if I had them,” said Amanda Martin, who’s opioid addiction started shortly after the death of a child.“My third born son died shortly after he was born and that just made a huge impact on me,” Martin said.During her fourth and fifth pregnancies, Martin, a former nurse, started taking pain pills which she says impacted her other children’s health.“They both had delayed speech patterns,” she said. “My youngest son that I took the most opiates with, he did have some developmental delays.”Martin’s opioid addiction eventually led to heroin use and ultimately put her in jail.New research shows during the past two decades, four times as many pregnant women are struggling with opioid use disorder and almost eight times as many infants are diagnosed with opioid withdrawal.Now, health experts say that many are having a hard time getting proper treatment.“Hospitals are providing variable care,” said Stephen Patrick, MD, director of the Vanderbilt Center for Child Health Policy. "And we see systems in communities really stretched, everything from local community hospitals to the child welfare system."He says every 15 minutes in America, an infant is born having an opioid withdrawal, which accounts for half a billion dollars in healthcare expenditures nationwide.“This year it looks like we’re on record pace once again to have to have a record-number of opioid overdoses,” Patrick said.While the COVID-19 crisis has made it harder for pregnant women to get into treatment, Patrick says this is a fixable problem, but that America currently lacks to funding and political will to change it.“As we start to usher in a new administration, I really hope the unique needs of pregnant women and infants affected by the opioid crisis are front and center,” he said.More help is something Martin agrees with, especially during the COVID crisis.“We see a lot of people coming in that are relapsing just simply because of the pandemic,” said Martin.Now three-and-a-half years sober, Martin is working as a recovery coach for Vertava Health in Mississippi and encouraging pregnant moms battling opioid addiction to get help, no matter how hard it may be.“There’s help out there,” she said. “And there’s non-judgmental places that you can come and you can get your whole life together and never have to live that way.” 2482

Almost a quarter million YETI travel mugs are being recalled over concerns about possible burns from hot liquids when the lid ejects.The Consumer Product Safety Commission says the magnet slider on the YETI Rambler 20 oz travel mug with “stronghold lid” can eject when sealed, and hot liquid inside the mug can spill out. The mug was sold from October 1 through 9 and affected 15,000 units. The recall applies to mugs with the date code 34204010 and was sold in a variety of colors. The recalled mugs were not sold on Amazon, REI, Academy, ACE, Dick’s Sporting Goods, or other retailers. They were mostly sold on YETI’s website.
