SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — SeaWorld San Diego's next thrill ride has been given the all clear by the state.The California Coastal Commission Wednesday approved the park's request for a dive coaster called Mako, set to open at the park next year. The roller coaster is already being billed as the "tallest, fastest, and longest dive coaster in California," and the only floorless dive coaster in the state.The San Diego City Council gave the 153-foot ride unanimous approval last April, allowing SeaWorld to exceed the city's 30-foot height limitation in coastal zones.RELATED: SeaWorld San Diego brings back its popular annual SoCal PassSeaWorld says construction on Mako should begin in the next few months.The ride, announced in January, will be constructed by Switzerland-based Bollinger & Mabillard. Floorless cars will hold 18 riders at a time in three six-person rows. The U.S. Postal Service estimates 850 million packages and 15 billion pieces of mail altogether, and Amazon says in 2016 they sent more than a billion items world wide through Prime.But this year, more companies have ways for you to protect your deliveries.Ring doorbells are becoming popular. They have motion-sensing cameras that connect to your smartphone, alerting users to see anyone that comes to the door. Their Facebook page is full of videos where owners scared off would-be thieves with an alarm or by shouting through a connected microphone.The company is also encouraging people to download their app. Even if you don't have a Ring Doorbell, the app will send you alerts any time suspicious activity is reported in your neighborhood.Also new this holiday season is the Amazon Key, an option introduced this fall. For about 0, you can buy a starter kit that includes a camera and a special door lock. Delivery drivers would be able to put packages inside your home.Amazon also has lockers all around San Diego that packages can be sent to. You get a code to open them to pick up your package.Meanwhile, the US Postal Service says people who are worried about theft can ship packages using the "Hold for Pickup" option. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Several women appeared in San Diego County Court to recall the interactions they had with Juan Carlos Cordero, the man they claim raped them. San Diego Police arrested 35-year-old Cordero in March for multiple felony sex crimes beginning in 2015. Police said he would approach intoxicated women at bars or online, take them back to his home, and rape them. One by one, the women came into the courtroom Wednesday, to answer questions at the preliminary hearing. The accusers said admittedly, some of the details of what happened are foggy."I'm not sure," one woman replied. "I honestly don't remember, but I was embarrassed that I didn't remember," said another. "I felt like ... I was drugged," another woman said. One woman said she met Cordero after posting on a singles advertisement on Craigslist. She was hoping for a pleasant interaction but said it turned horrific. She said she did everything Cordero told her to do, fearing for her life."He threatened me with spanks with the belt, a weapon," she said. Another woman said she met Cordero on a dating site when she was 18. She admitted lying to her father about Cordero, saying he was a person she knew. But after drinking a few beers in San Diego County, she said Cordero drove her to his home in Newport Beach. "I don't remember very much until I woke up to him yelling at me that I was being too loud, and that I was like every other girl and that I was going to wake up his neighbors," she recalled.After that interaction, she demanded Cordero drive her back to San Diego. In fear that her parents would scold her, she said she did not tell them what had happened, until a few hours later. On the drive home, she remembered that Cordero punched her face repeatedly."I grabbed the steering wheel and yanked it on the freeway," she said. "He [Cordero] got off at the next exit, and I ran into the Denny's."She then had her father pick her up at the restaurant in San Clemente. The following day, she said she went into a hospital to take a drug and rape kit.Another accuser said last fall, she and Cordero went on what started as a nice first date. But she ended up unconscious and woke up in pain."I noticed welts on the back of my butt, I guess," she said. Tearing up, she said she was too embarrassed to report the incident because the two continued to date. After they broke up, she said she read an article about Cordero and his alleged victims. That is when she decided to go to the police and tell her own story."He choked me until the point where I couldn't breathe," she said. "And I asked him to stop." "And what did he say?" prosecutor Martin Doyle said. "That he could end me right then and no one would know," she replied. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Saturday a new curfew went into effect for San Diego businesses, in an attempt to slow the sky-rocketing coronavirus cases across the state.Saturday, the county announced 1,478 new coronavirus cases, the highest number in a single day we've seen. San Diego County's total is now 70,709 cases. Six more people have died from the virus, bringing the local death toll to 966.This alarming rise in cases urged California Governor Gavin Newsom to issue a limited stay-at-home order for counties in the purple tier, shutting all businesses down 10 p.m. - 5 a.m. until Dec. 21.That cuts restaurants down about an hour from the way they were operating prior, according to Mike Hess, founder of Mike Hess Brewing."It gets my crew home earlier, it's just another thing to deal with, it's a month maybe it's longer we'll see, we'll keep going," he said.He's not worried so much about the latest change."This has been the year of hits, I mean it's one after another," Hess said he's concerned about winter weather coming."Heaters are in shortage, you know covered space, you know that kind of thing, it's tough to shelter people on a sidewalk," he said.He's also worried about keeping cans in stock, "there's plenty of aluminum there's just a shortage of manufacturers making cans."He said he's thankful for his incredible team who is taking the punches with him."Everybody says pivot I think it's more than pivot, you have to be flexible," he said.Hess said he's thankful his doors are open and business is good, "production is up this year, we're putting everything in cans so that's been good, and our on-site locations have been doing pretty well this year."Hess longs to bring a sense of community back, "I long for those days when people can mingle and say hey! SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Some places of worship around San Diego County appear to be planning to continue holding services on their property despite the state’s order regarding indoor operations.On Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced pandemic-related restrictions for certain businesses and activities, and places of worship were included on California’s list.Via a Wednesday evening livestream, Kearny Mesa-based Awaken Church broadcasted their service in which there were people in attendance. On their website, Awaken Church promoted in-person women’s prayer meetings held at each of their campuses.ABC 10News asked church leaders to clarify the meeting, and an Awaken pastor said they were holding a prayer protest.At the church’s Balboa Avenue campus, a disclaimer is posted on doors that reads, in part: “By entering this building where COVID-19 virus may possibly exist, despite efforts and attempts at utilizing and employing CDC Public Health Guidelines, you take full responsibility for the decision to attend our services and activities.”A viewer brought a Facebook post by Lighthouse Baptist Church to ABC 10News’ attention. In the post, the Lemon Grove church says, in part: “We are aware of the current mandates of our Governor and County. But, by God’s grace will continue with their current schedule of live worship services on the property.”It’s unclear whether those services will be inside or outside.ABC 10News reached out to both churches for further comment, but neither have returned calls as of late Thursday morning.A woman who asked not to be identified told ABC 10News that her church also invited her back. She said she believes the places of worship that stay open are doing more harm than good.“They want things to be back to normal, everyone does. But they aren’t being realistic about it.
