The Trump administration identified 471 parents who were removed from the United States without their children and "without being given the opportunity to elect or waive reunification," according to the latest court filing in an ongoing lawsuit,The revelation came in a filing in the family separation lawsuit Ms. L et al. vs. Immigration and Customs Enforcement et al. The administration has previously acknowledged that parents were removed without their children, but the latest report provides an updated count -- which had been requested by the American Civil Liberties Union to serve as a baseline to better track reunifications. The ACLU filed the case against the Trump administration last year on behalf of a Congolese woman, referred to as "Ms. L," who was seeking asylum in the US and was separated from her 7-year-old daughter. The case was later expanded to a class-action lawsuit.District Judge Dana Sabraw issued a preliminary injunction last June blocking most family separations at the US-Mexico border and ordering that those already separated be reunited.Wednesday's court filing notes that since the preliminary injunction was issued, the government has worked with a steering committee regarding the status of deported parents who have children remaining in federal care. The ACLU helped lead the committee, which reached out to all the parents who had been deported. The filing also includes the latest numbers on reunifications. As of Monday, 2,741 of 2,816 children have been discharged from government care, up six since the Feb. 20 status report. Four children are "proceeding towards reunification or other appropriate discharge," according to the filing. 1691

TUCSON, Ariz. – A Vietnam veteran in Arizona and his new adopted dog have something in common – they both know what it’s like to live with a disability. Late last year, Athena the dog was at Southern Oasis Labrador Rescue in Tuscon, Arizona, while the rehab team developed a prosthetic leg for her, which gained attention in the media. When her story caught the eyes of veteran David Powell and his wife Margaret, they fell in love.According to Ann Herrington with thetucsondog.com, David and Margaret lost their dog a few years ago and were looking for a new one to adopt in November of last year."When she became available for adoption, they did just that. Upon becoming a family, the three of them formed an immediate symbiotic bond," the website's press release said.David, who is disabled due to Agent Orange exposure during his deployment, donates his time to helping other veterans. Now that he has Athena, he shares the story of how they met at national engagements.Margaret, who works with therapy dogs, has big plans for Athena. She is in the process of taking her through obedience school and therapy dog training.“Athena brings joy to people she meets. There’s something innate in her, bringing happiness to people when they are down,” Margaret told The Tucson Dog magazine.David and Athena will share their full story at the upcoming WOOFstock & Adopt-a-thon at Reid Park Sunday, March 4, at 1:30 p.m. Other dogs will also be on-site to adopt. The Senate delivered a high-profile rebuke to President Donald Trump over his signature agenda issue Thursday when 12 Republicans joined Democrats to overturn the President's national emergency border declaration. The vote was 59-41, an overwhelming vote against the President's executive action.Lawmakers don't have enough votes, however, to override a certain veto from the President, but passage of the resolution in the Senate after it passed the House last month is nevertheless an embarrassing blow to Trump delivered by his own party over the President's top campaign pledge of a wall at the US-Mexico border. The setback for the President also comes on the heels of another high-profile break with his administration after the Senate 752
