A viral video bouncing around social media that alleges voter fraud in Michigan actually depicts an E.W. Scripps news photographer loading cameras and other broadcast equipment into a wagon.Conservative commentators have alleged that the video shows a man wheeling a box of mail-in ballots into the TCF Center — a Detroit convention center where Michigan officials have been counting ballots. The conspiracy alleges that the ballots are arriving late, long after deadlines have passed.However, the video actually depicts a photographer at Scripps station WXYZ in Detroit, who used his own wagon to transport cameras and other broadcast equipment from the street down to TCF Center to get his shots.The misleading videos have appeared on Texas Scorecard, a website that describes itself as "relentlessly pro-citizen, unabashedly pro-liberty," and on the YouTube page of conservative commentator Steven Crowder.There is currently no evidence of widespread voter fraud in Michigan or in other parts of the country.This story was originally published by WXYZ in Detroit. 1074

A new warning has come that more older adults, over the age of 65, are dying from falls.According to the Centers for Disease Control it's increased from about 18,000 a decade ago to 30,000 in 2016. That number could climb to as many as 59,000 by 2030. Luckily falls are preventable. Here are the main things you can do to keep your house safe.These are small changes you can start making now even if you're not over 65 or not concerned about falling. Jason McCullough with Brothers Redevelopment Inc. walked The Now through a house to show some of those changes. The best part is they're relatively easy.McCullough said some of the changes actually start before you get inside the house."Most falls happen (in) main entry areas, kitchens and baths," McCullough said.According to McCullough a grab bar is a versatile tool that can help in any room."They come in a kind of a decorative finish," McCullough said. "This one's brushed steel.  So we usually place these in a bathroom. We'll do a vertical installation for transitions in and out of the tub. And then sometimes we'll also place a diagonal installation so that when you're in the tub you have more safety and stability."McCullough showed how it should look."It's at a height where she can grab it," McCullough said. "It's on a vertical next to the tub. So she can use that getting in and out of the tub, so it's a great transitional stability piece."He said tubs can be an area prone for falls."You have these custom tubs," McCullough said. "Obviously they're raised so they're a little higher than your normal tub is, but it's still, you can see it's below my knee, so that's much more of a fall risk 'cause you're going to catch that and you can't really catch yourself and you're going all the way in. But if you have this, you have something to hold on to."Transitions from room to room can be fall hazards as well."So this would be an issue right here because we have a rise in the floor and this transition's a little thin," McCullough said as he pointed to a change in floor height in a threshold.  "We'd want to see a wider, more sloped transition piece here or we'd want the floor installed level with the other existing floor."McCullough said fall dangers can even be outdoors. He pointed out several issues in the backyard."This is a great example of where we get comfortable and we miss things over the years," McCullough said, as he pointed to steps without rails.  "Our houses age just like we do.  And as we get older, a lot of times our eyesight starts to go, their motor skills start to slip and they don't notice things that they would have, or someone new to their house would have noticed.  And just this kind of little small ledge here, this could be a trip hazard and you don't have anything to grab onto if you do trip and fall."Another thing to consider is if you find yourself always grabbing the wall or you visit a loved one and you notice marks on the wall, that may be a sign that it's time to consider these upgrades. 3068

A school district in Louisiana has acknowledged that some of its customs and practices, including sponsoring morning prayer over the public address system, have violated the First Amendment.The admission comes as part of a consent decree agreed upon by the district, Christy Cole and her daughter, Kaylee. The Coles sued in January?after saying they'd had enough of what they called forced prayer in school. In their lawsuit, they alleged the Webster Parish School District engaged in a systematic, official promotion of religion.The consent decree does not have any impact beyond Webster Parish, but ACLU lawyer Bruce Hamilton said it sets a precedent for how schools act with regards to prayer and religious proselytizing."This really is the wake-up calling and a warning shot to other school districts ... that they can't get away with it without violating the Constitution," said Hamilton, who worked with the Cole family on the lawsuit.The lawsuit sparked deep reflection and frustration in Webster Parish. Faith is deeply personal, but it's also interwoven with everything in the town.It's common to see a large cross in the front yard of a house. Seven churches dominate the two main roads in the town of Minden. A sign advertises a pest control business with a nod to a Bible verse: John 3:16. A Phoenix boy is in the hospital after his mother's boyfriend allegedly broke his bones and pulled out his hair. Phoenix police report that on Wednesday, they arrested 25-year-old Steven Darrell Nelson at his home near 7th Street and Union Hills Drive. Three weeks earlier, a 4-year-old boy who also lives at Nelson's home was taken to the hospital with multiple life-threatening injuries. Pediatricians at Phoenix Children’s Hospital report that the child had a broken arm, broken leg, lacerated liver, bowel perforation, "multiple areas of hair loss from hair being pulled out by the roots," and bruising throughout his body.The boy has been hospitalized for the past three weeks, and allegedly told police, "Steven hurt me." Upon his arrest, Nelson reportedly told police that they were playing when the injuries occurred, and, "he hoped that one day they could be friends."  926

A recent study from Iowa State University’s Food Science And Human Nutrition Department found that eating cheese could help protect against age-related cognitive problems, and drinking red wine led to cognitive function improvements.According to the study published in November's Journal of Alzheimer's Disease, the team analyzed data from 1,787 adults, who ranged in age from 46 to 77, through the UK Biobank. This biomedical database contains in-depth genetic and health details of 500,000 participants.Between 2006 and 2016, participants completed a Fluid Intelligence Test (FIT) and then were assessed in two follow-up tests that gave an in-time snapshot of the participants' ability to think on the fly.The participants also answered questions about their food and alcohol intake, the study showed.According to the study, researchers found that eating cheese protected the most against age-related cognitive problems. It also showed that drinking alcohol daily, red wine, in particular, was related to improving cognitive function.Researchers also found that eating lamb weekly, but not other red meats, improved long-term cognitive prowess, the study showed.The study also found that eating excessive amounts of salt can cause cognitive problems over time. 1270
