OCEANSIDE, California— Oceanside lifeguards are warning beachgoers of multiple shark sighting off Oceanside Pier Friday.Lifeguards said they received multiple reports of an unknown species of shark, measuring about 12 feet in length, about 100 yards offshore on the south side of the pier just after 12:30 p.m.Two rescue vessels and a drone were sent out to the shark's last reported location, but no shark was located.The waters have been cleared for swimmers and surfers for about 1 mile north and 1 mile south of the area, according to lifeguards.Waters will remain open Saturday, barring any other reported sightings.While shark sightings are rare along San Diego County's coastline, lifeguards are asking beachgoers to keep an eye out.A 13-year-old boy was attacked by what is believed to have been a great white shark in September off the coast of Encinitas, just south.Keane Hayes was attacked while lobster diving at Beacon's Beach. (KGTV) - A North County mom is giving thanks as she searches for the "roadside angels" who came to her family's side after a car crash.Aleisha Sargent was behind the wheel with her two kids — 10-year-old Calli and her 7-year-old brother Tyson — in the middle row of the van last Thursday. They stopped at the intersection of Ridge Road and Lake Blvd. when Sargent says her light turned green, a car ran a red light and broadsided her."Just taking my two youngest children to school around 7:30 that morning," said Sargent. "Spun in the middle of the intersection, almost 180 degrees ... My glasses flew off. Couldn't see my kids, which was scary. Calli was asking what was happening. Tyson was saying his head hurt," said Sargent.As they sat in the van, a woman appeared next to them."She asked if we were okay, opened the door and helped me and my children to the side of the road, where we sat on the sidewalk. She called 911 ... She said she was an off-duty nurse and proceeded to check out the children."They were shaking and scared," said Sargent.Both women reassured them and wrapped them in blankets, before they eventually left. Sargent was able to say thank you to the off-duty nurse, but it was quick."I was able to sit there and hold my children as they calmed down. OCEANSIDE, Calif. (KGTV) – A father and his young son were hospitalized after a fire erupted at their mobile home in Oceanside.The fire was reported Tuesday at around 10:30 p.m. at a mobile home park on 251 Blue Springs Lane, according to Oceanside Fire officials.Witnesses told ABC 10News that the blaze started in the back of a mobile home, trapping a man and his son inside.As flames engulfed the home, some neighbors tried to put out the fire by spraying water from garden hoses.However, one neighbor heard banging coming from a window and a call for help. That neighbor got to the window, smashed it, and was then handed the boy by his father. Moments later, the neighbor helped the father crawl through the broken window.Responding firefighters were able to knock the fire down within 20 minutes. No other homes appeared to have been damaged by the blaze.ABC 10News learned the child was airlifted to Rady Children’s Hospital after suffering smoke inhalation.The boy’s father was transported by helicopter to UC San Diego’s Burn Center with burn injuries and cuts from the broken window.The cause of the fire is under investigation. 1146

Officers rescued a couple in Connecticut early Wednesday morning who were caught in a flood after a woman yelled to her iPhone “CALL 911” to summon police.According to the Guilford Police Department, the couple was crabbing when the husband fell into the water and was trapped in the entrance of the sluice pipe that runs under the roadway. The woman was holding onto her husband, fearing if she let go, he would get sucked in.Two officers from Guilford Police arrived, and said they retrieved a rope to assist the woman in saving her husband.“One of the key reasons officers were able to locate the victim so quickly was because his wife had SIRI activated on her iPhone," the Guilford Police Department said. “Her phone was a significant distance away from where she was trying to save her husband and she could not let go of him. She shouted to SIRI to "call 911" and the phone immediately dialed and made contact with 911 fire dispatchers.”The phone’s GPS technology gave officers the location, allowing for a swift rescue.Amazingly, no one was injured from Wednesday’s incident. 1091
