SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - SeaWorld is seeing an unusually large number of sea lion rescues along the local coastline this winter."Most of those rescued are coming in emaciated and dehydrated," said Jennifer Zarate, SeaWorld Senior Animal Care Specialist.Zarate says since early December, SeaWorld has rescued 25 sea lions along the coastline."Definitely a little concerning," said Zarate.That is about three times the amount they normally see. Usually, rescue season begins in March, so these rescues are coming early. Those needing rescuing this winter are younger than normal, less than two years old. The cause is a mystery, but Zarate says those early winter storms could be playing a role. The big swells may be tiring the pups out, causing them to burn too many calories. The weather may also be impacting their food sources.."The winter storms may be pushing schools of fish out further than seal lion pups can get to. That's probably the reason why they might not find as much fish as they normally would," said Zarate. After being rescued by SeaWorld, the pups now doing well. So far, medical tests haven't turned up anything else unusual. The pups are gaining back weight as expected. Next week, the first three of those recently rescued will be released.SeaWorld says the coastline in Orange County has also seen an increase in sea lion rescues. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University will begin testing all students who live on campus for COVID-19, the school said Tuesday.According to the university, the testing will start on September 16. After the initial phase of testing, the school will begin testing students at random. “Following the initial phase of benchmark testing for all students in residence this week, we will then launch random testing for the on-campus housing population. During each round of testing, a set of individuals from each residential community group will be randomly sampled to be re-tested,” the school said.The news comes as 648 students tested positive or presumptive positive for the virus.According to SDSU, 644 students have so far tested positive for the virus. Four students are presumptive positive.So far, no faculty or staff have tested positive for coronavirus. 875

It's a gap the nonprofit lender Accion has been working to fill for the last 25 years. "Sometimes thinking about getting a loan can be scary, and I think one of the things we really try to do through our process with our staff is really walk alongside that business owner," said Elizabeth Shott, CEO of Accion. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Registrar of Voters addressed worries over ballots that may have been filled out using Sharpies, saying the ballots will not be disqualified.Wednesday, an attorney working for President Donald Trump's campaign claimed supporters who used Sharpies on their ballots are worried that their votes are being thrown out as Arizona's vote tally continued. There's no evidence that Sharpie votes have been disqualified and the Maricopa County Elections Department has said that ballots won't be impacted because a Sharpie was used.RELATED: 'Sharpie ballots' have the attention of a Trump campaign hoping to flip ArizonaThursday, the San Diego Registrar of Voters offered a similar statement, saying Sharpies — even if they bleed through the ballot — will not disqualify votes. Our voting system prevents a situation where if a voter uses a Sharpie to vote and it bleeds through to the other side, it will not impact any 'bubbles' on the opposite side," the Registrar said.The county added that polling locations do not provide Sharpies and instead use "archival pens," which were identified to be the best writing instrument more than a decade ago."In San Diego County, we do not provide Sharpies to voters to mark their ballot. What we use are archival pens, which we researched over 10 years ago as the best marking instrument for a voter. The ink in the archival pen actually helps in preventing bleed through of the ballot while ensuring the 'bubble' is clearly marked," according to the Registrar.As of Thursday afternoon, the county has recorded more than 1.2 million ballots and had about 370,000 left to process.
