SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego's Registrar of Voters addressed worries over ballots that may have been filled out using Sharpies, saying the ballots will not be disqualified.Wednesday, an attorney working for President Donald Trump's campaign claimed supporters who used Sharpies on their ballots are worried that their votes are being thrown out as Arizona's vote tally continued. There's no evidence that Sharpie votes have been disqualified and the Maricopa County Elections Department has said that ballots won't be impacted because a Sharpie was used.RELATED: 'Sharpie ballots' have the attention of a Trump campaign hoping to flip ArizonaThursday, the San Diego Registrar of Voters offered a similar statement, saying Sharpies — even if they bleed through the ballot — will not disqualify votes. Part of this is because ballots are printed in an off-set pattern, meaning "bubbles" for races and measures do not overlap on each side of a ballot."Regardless, using a Sharpie does not invalidate the ballot. Our voting system prevents a situation where if a voter uses a Sharpie to vote and it bleeds through to the other side, it will not impact any 'bubbles' on the opposite side," the Registrar said.The county added that polling locations do not provide Sharpies and instead use "archival pens," which were identified to be the best writing instrument more than a decade ago."In San Diego County, we do not provide Sharpies to voters to mark their ballot. What we use are archival pens, which we researched over 10 years ago as the best marking instrument for a voter. The ink in the archival pen actually helps in preventing bleed through of the ballot while ensuring the 'bubble' is clearly marked," according to the Registrar.As of Thursday afternoon, the county has recorded more than 1.2 million ballots and had about 370,000 left to process. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Scripps Health in San Diego is inundated with calls from people who are worried that they might have the coronavirus.“Understandably, people are now getting upper respiratory infections and right away they're thinking is this COVID-19 so they're calling the line and we're giving them the help that they need,” says Dr. David Wetherhold.The hospital network's dedicated COVID-19 nurse line is reportedly peaking at 60 calls every 15 minutes, connecting patients to nurses for screenings. If a nurse believes that a phone call warrants a video call and the video call warrants actual testing, the nurse will assign the patient a time to park outside one of the cabanas now staged outside three of the Scripps Health clinics. The patient will then call in. “A single licensed provider will come out to your car [and] do an evaluation. They'll check your blood pressure. They'll check your temperature. They'll check your pulse and your oxygenation level and then they will obtain the COVID-19 sample which is a swab into the nose,” adds Wetherhold.Wetherhold says COVID-19 test results come back in two to four days. Positive patients will only need to return for treatment if their symptoms are unmanageable. He's also working vigorously on Scripps Health’s larger telehealth program. It was supposed to roll out over the next 18 months, but with COVID-19, it's been compressed into a few weeks. Wetherhold tells 10News that patients who are considered "at risk" are in desperate need of virtual care so that they can avoid any potential exposure to COVID-19. “The immunocompromised, transplant patients, heart failure patients or cancer patients. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Some Pacific Beach families say they no longer feel comfortable at their public library because of the homeless population."It's no longer a library it's a homeless shelter, and that's the word that's spreading."Racheal Allen spends hours each day crusading for public safety in PB. The Neighborhood Watch Block Captain is tired of seeing the same problems on repeat at the library. "Cleanliness an issue, hygiene, I would not let my kid run around barefoot here," Allen said.MAP: Track crime happening in your neighborhoodMost recently she saw the swing sets being used as a clothesline. "I've seen a lot, but when I saw that it was a slap in the face," Allen added.And another slap in the face she says, a new library policy enacted last year. "If I was to enforce I'm going to suspend a toddler who falls asleep or I’m going to going to suspend an 80-year-old man who nods off reading the newspaper.”Jones says now, staff will wake a person up but they won't be kicked out if they're not disrupting others. "It was punitive and unfair and targeting a specific population," Jones said.Jones says one reason the policy changed was after a librarian found a teenager sleeping. UPS says they'll deliver 750 million. The U.S. Postal Service estimates 850 million packages and 15 billion pieces of mail altogether, and Amazon says in 2016 they sent more than a billion items world wide through Prime.But this year, more companies have ways for you to protect your deliveries.Ring doorbells are becoming popular. They have motion-sensing cameras that connect to your smartphone, alerting users to see anyone that comes to the door. Their Facebook page is full of videos where owners scared off would-be thieves with an alarm or by shouting through a connected microphone.The company is also encouraging people to download their app. Even if you don't have a Ring Doorbell, the app will send you alerts any time suspicious activity is reported in your neighborhood.Also new this holiday season is the Amazon Key, an option introduced this fall. For about 0, you can buy a starter kit that includes a camera and a special door lock. Delivery drivers would be able to put packages inside your home.Amazon also has lockers all around San Diego that packages can be sent to. You get a code to open them to pick up your package.Meanwhile, the US Postal Service says people who are worried about theft can ship packages using the "Hold for Pickup" option. Packages are kept at the post office to be picked up. You can also require a signature for delivery, or re-route a package to a different address while it's being delivered.
