CALEXICO (CNS) - The federal government today broke ground on the first border wall replacement project awarded under President Donald Trump.Customs and Border Protection is replacing a 2.25-mile section of border fencing constructed in the 1990s using scrap metal with a 30-foot-high bollard-style wall just south of downtown Calexico. CAPE CORAL, Fla., — A Florida utilities crew discovered a fossil archeologists now believe may be of a woolly mammoth or mastodon.The crew was digging in a trench 17 feet below the ground in Cape Coral last month.The crew turned over the fossil to the city which brought in archeologists to assess it.Robert Carr with the Archeological and Historical Conservancy says the fossil fragment was probably part of the mammoth’s humorous bone, or upper arm.The fossil is roughly one foot long and 10 inches wide.He estimates the fossil is 12,500 to 250,000 years old, based on similar discoveries.According to the report, during that time "glacial retreat led to the formation of savannas across Florida and herds of mammoth, bison, antelope, and horse roamed the peninsula."According to the Florida Museum of Natural History (FMNH), there are only two recorded mammoth fossil sites in Lee County.However, Carr believes there may be other fossil beds within the city with the remains of other extinct mammals.The City of Cape Coral plans to donate the fossil to the Cape Coral Historical Museum in the coming months. 1138

Caesars Entertainment Corporation announced plans Wednesday to bring a non-gaming Caesars Palace resort to beach-front property along the coast of Puerto Los Cabos, Mexico. The 0 million luxury beachfront hotel will be developed by Grupo Questro. Caesars Entertainment will manage the property and receive a licensing and management fee. It is set to break ground in early 2019. The non-gaming luxury beachfront hotel will feature 500 rooms and suites, a 40,000-square foot convention center, a 25,000-square foot full-service spa, three fine dining restaurants, an array of amenities including an entertainment venue, pools, cabanas, fitness center, tennis courts and access to the two signature golf courses. The beach-front property will be situated in the Puerto Los Cabos Tourist Corridor and the San Jose del Cabo resort city on the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula.The announcement of the Puerto Los Cabos project follows last week’s announcement that Caesars Entertainment will manage two luxury hotels and a beach club at Meraas’ Dubai-based Bluewaters Island development. (KGTV) — U.S. history from the Mayflower through the American Revolution is on display in Carlsbad.The Green Dragon Tavern and Museum, off Interstate 5 at Palomar Airport Road, offers a full-service restaurant and a chance to look at original documents from the country's Colonial Period."Not a lot of families have the money or time or resources to be able to travel back east and experience these things first hand," says Green Dragon General Manager John Lek. "A lot of our guests say they feel like they're in Boston or New England without having to leave San Diego."The museum's artifacts are all part of a private collection owned by a local man, who asked not to be identified. He wanted to share his collection with the rest of San Diego, and put them on display at the restaurant.Among the items are documents signed by 14 of America's founding fathers. That gives visitors a chance to see the signatures of Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, John Hancock and more.Lek says just seeing these items can give people a deeper link to their past."There is something authentic and something that really settles in when you have a direct connection with our forefathers," says Lek.The museum has been open for five years. Right now, everything fits within a single room. But there are plans for expansion.Lek says the museum will open a second room with more interactive and hands-on technology, as well as more artifacts from America's past.Admission to the museum is free, and it's open anytime the restaurant is open.
