BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- China is launching its sixth national population census Monday, ten years after the last one, as the world's most populous nation seeks a clearer and up-to-date picture of its population.From Nov. 1 to Nov. 10, more than six million census takers are to go door to door and visit over 400 million households across the country, recording family information and finishing the first stage of the census.In order to have more accurate figures, from Nov. 11 to Nov. 30, another round of census-taking will be launched, though on the smaller scale of 1/10000 of the population, officials with the country's National Bureau of Statistics said.Statistics will be calculated in December, with the key data scheduled to be released by the end of April 2011, sources said.In the last census, China's population stood at 1.29533 billion.
BEIJING, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Senior Communist Party of China (CPC) official Zhou Yongkang on Tuesday concluded a visit to India that helped promote development of mutual trust and bilateral cooperation between the two Asian nations.Zhou, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and also secretary of the Commission for Political and Legal Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, met Monday with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi, India's capital.During the meeting, Zhou said strengthening political mutual trust with India was the key to deeper cooperation with the country and that the leaders of the two countries should often exchange views in great depth and with great frankness on major issues of mutual concern.Zhou said China and India had a combined population of 2.5 billion and there existed a great space for developing cooperation in the economy and trade, and people-to-people and cultural exchanges.He said both China and India faced the heavy task of developing their own economy, improving people's living standards and safeguarding social stability.Zhou said, while China was making its 12th five-year plan for socioeconomic development in the 2011-2015 period and India making its 11th five-year plan, China wished to increase political trust with India, expand cooperation of mutual benefit, and deepen the strategic cooperative partnership with India.Prime Minister Singh said the friendly relations between India and China played an extremely important role in promoting peace, stability and development in Asia and even in the whole world.Zhou also met on Monday with ruling Indian National Congress party President Sonia Gandhi and party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi.During the meeting, Zhou said the development of China and India provided opportunities rather than posed challenges to each other.Both China and India believed the world was big enough to accommodate the common development of China and India, Zhou said, adding the Chinese side was happy for every achievement that India made in its development.As for the China-India trade, which is expected to reach 60 billion U.S. dollars this year, Zhou said there was still great potential for the two big emerging powers to tap.He hoped both sides could deepen the strategic cooperative partnership further, strengthen practical cooperation in various fields, and increase personnel exchanges at different levels.Sonia Gandhi said India had always paid great attention to China's development and welcomed the improvement in the living standard of the Chinese people.She said India's and China's development had speeded up the recovery of the world economy in the face of the international financial crisis and she hoped both sides could strengthen coordination and cooperation further and tackle various global issues in a better way and maintain the favorable momentum of development.Zhou also met with Indian Minister of External Affairs S. BRUSSELS, Oct. 5 (Xinhua) -- China expected an early resumption of the six-party talks to ease tensions and resolve the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao said here on Tuesday.All parties should make joint efforts to ease tensions between the south and the north on the peninsula and strive to resume the six-party talks at an early date, said Wen while meeting South Korean President Lee Myung-bak on the sidelines of the eighth Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) Summit in Brussels."This is in the fundamental interests of all parties involved and is conducive to peace and stability in the region," he said.The six-party talks, a multilateral mechanism designed to peacefully denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, were launched in 2003. The talks involve China, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), Japan, South Korea, Russia and the United States.Speaking of the upcoming Group of 20 (G20) Seoul Summit, slated for Nov. 11-12, Wen said it was of great significance for boosting the world economic recovery, adding that China would support South Korea in seeking positive outcomes at the meeting.Wen said China regards South Korea as a friendly neighbor and an important partner. It also cherished the hard-won mutual understanding and trust between the two countries, believing the bilateral ties could withstand tests and continue to develop.China would also work with South Korea to boost cooperation in East Asia, Wen added.Lee appreciated China's support for Seoul G20 summit, saying his country would keep working with China to improve bilateral ties and play an active role in safeguarding peace and stability as well as deepening cooperation within the region.

BEIJING, Oct. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's top political advisory body decided Friday to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the 1911 Revolution in 2011.The decision was announced on the last day of the 11th session of the Standing Committee of the 11th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).The 1911 Revolution, led by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, broke out on Oct. 10, 1911. It overthrew the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), ending thousands of years of Chinese feudalism.Separately, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, said at the meeting all attendees agreed with the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee proposal for the nation's next five-year program.Jia said all CPPCC National Committee members should learn and understand the proposal to ensure China realizes the transformation of its economic development pattern.The CPPCC will continue to make further efforts to help implement the 12th Five-Year Program, Jia said.Also Friday, Jia said at a group study meeting of the CPPCC National Committee that members and organizations of the CPPCC have made great efforts to promote economic and cultural exchange with Taiwan compatriots."It is necessary for CPPCC members to make a good use of our advantages with wide connections, be ready to offer advice and suggestions, and carry out and promote exchange between compatriots across the Taiwan Strait, so as to enhance understanding and trust, and make contribution to advancing peaceful reunification of our motherland," said Jia.
