(KGTV) -- Two brothers have been arrested in a string of North County burglaries that occurred earlier this year, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department said Wednesday.On June 11, Daron Davon Turner, 38, and his half-brother, Daren Tyrone Turner, 25, were arrested in Poway for the burglaries.Authorities say an investigation connected the brothers to multiple residential burglaries. President Donald Trump is expected to grant new authority to US troops on the Southwest border with Mexico to protect Customs and Border Protection personnel from migrants if they engage in violence, according to two defense officials and another US official directly familiar with the plans. Poway and San Diego Fire departments responded to the 13,000 block of Silver Saddle Lane after getting a 9-1-1 call at around 1:15 pm. When crews arrived, they found the side of the home on fire. "The fire was just on the garage and the exterior of the garage. It appears it did not make it into the house," Poway Fire Battalion Chief Ray Fried said. Batt. Chief Fried said the methane levels were too high, above 0 ppm, which meant his fire crews needed to stand down until SDG&E cleared the gas leak. (CNS) - A 71-year-old man was killed when he was run over by his own Smart Car after he unhitched it from a motorhome at a campground in the far southern reaches of San Diego County, authorities said Friday. The accident happened around 5 p.m. Thursday at Potrero County Park, northeast of Tecate, California Highway Patrol Officer Jeff Christy said. The Federal Way, Washington, resident had just returned from a trip to Mexico and parked his motorhome, which was towing a late model Smart Car, at the campground, Christy said. When the man, whose name was withheld pending family notification, uncoupled the hitch between the Smart Car and the rear of the motorhome, the car began to roll backward, the officer said. ``The male had failed to ensure the emergency brake was set on the Smart Car,'' Christy said. ``The male ran to the rear of the vehicle and attempted to stop its movement, but was overcome by its momentum.'' The car ran over the victim, pinning him underneath it. Witnesses contacted emergency personnel while good Samaritans attempted to lift the car off of him, but they were unsuccessful, Christy said. Firefighters arrived and lifted the car off the victim using hydraulic jacks, then paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, he said. 1329
