(KGTV) -- The Director of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Sunday the agency has given the go-ahead for Pfizer and BioNTech’s COVID-19 vaccine to be administered, CNN reported.The CDC says the vaccine may be given to those 16 and older.The approval means shots can now be given in the United States, CNN reports. Friday, the FDA granted emergency use authorization for the vaccine.Following the announcement, the first trucks carrying vaccines pulled out of a Michigan manufacturing plant Sunday morning.The Associated Press reported that the initial doses of the vaccine will likely be limited to healthcare workers and those in nursing homes.More than 325,000 doses of the vaccine were making their way to California Sunday as cases continue to spike.So far, the Golden State has seen more than 1,521,000 cases and nearly 21,000 deaths.According to San Diego County officials, the first 28,000 doses of the vaccine will be distributed to Rady Children’s Hospital, UCSD, and the county. 1017

A 10th child has died following an outbreak of adenovirus at a New Jersey rehabilitation facility, state health officials said.At least 27 children have been linked to the outbreak at the Wanaque Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Haskell, the New Jersey Department of Health said."To date, the individuals associated with the outbreak became ill between Sept. 26 and Oct. 29," it said. "The affected children had severely compromised immune systems — including respiratory problems — before the outbreak began."The viruses are found on unclean surfaces and medical instruments. A 33-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday after North Las Vegas police said she carried a pickax onto a school campus and threatened children while they were at lunch.Police said just before noon, a resident near Tom Williams Elementary School called police regarding a woman who was carrying a pickax as she was climbing over the school's chain link fence. Two-hundred-fifty children were outside at the time.According to police, the woman, identified as Kisstal Killough, was acting erratic and screaming that she was going to kill everyone.Police arrived within one minute. She put down on the ax and dropped to the ground before orders were given by police.Killough was arrested on charges of assault, trespass, nuisance and loitering on a school property. The principal of Tom Williams Elementary sent a letter out to parents. The safety of our students is the number one priority at Tom Williams Elementary School.
