Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd on Wednesday announced the arrests of three suspects in connection to a group of friends murdered during a fishing trip in Florida on Friday. Damion Tillman, 23, Keven Springfield, 30, and Brandon Rollins, 27, were all killed while fishing in unincorporated Frostproof on July 17. The sheriff's office arrested Tony "TJ" Wiggins, 26, his girlfriend Mary Whittemore, 27, and Tony's brother William "Robert" Wiggins, 21, in relation to the murders. Judd described Tony as "pure evil in the flesh" and said he has 230 previous felony charges. According to a press release, the sheriff's office found a Dollar General bag at the crime scene with a receipt from that day of the crime. Detectives went to the store and reviewed surveillance footage. The release says one of the victims, Damion Tillman, was seen in the video along with all of the suspects. According to the release, the cashier said Tillman was a regular at the store and mentioned that he was going fishing that night. The clerk told detectives the suspects heard Tillman say he was going fishing and that "Keven" would be there with him. Keven Springfield, 30, was another of the victims. The clerk heard the suspects talk about what they heard among themselves, the release says. Detectives said they also received tips that one of the suspects might be Tony Wiggins. On Monday, the sheriff's office served a search warrant on a piece of land in Lake Wales where the suspects were living. Tony and Whittemore lived in one travel trailer on the property and William lived in another trailer on the same property. During the search, detectives found two SKS rifles, two Mossberg shotguns and ammunition for both in a gun safe belonging to Tony. Tony was arrested for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of ammunition by a convicted felon. Detectives also found ammunition during the search and compared it to shell casings from the crime scene. The ammo was sent to the FDLE and testing showed that it was the same as that fired from a Smith & Wesson handgun the night of the murders, according to a press release. Detectives say Whittemore bought the ammo found at the scene for Tony in Lake Wales on July 9. According to the release, the two are seen in surveillance video from the store and detectives found a receipt that confirmed the purchase. When all three suspects were interviewed, detectives say their stories contradicted each other. Whittemore admitted to buying the ammo and being with the brothers the night of the murder but didn't make any additional statements, according to authorities. When William Wiggins was interviewed again, detectives said he admitted to seeing Tillman, one of the victims, in the store. William told detectives when they left the store, his brother Tony directed him to turn onto a specific road instead of going home. According to authorities, while on the road two trucks that were occupied by the three victims passed the brothers. Tony told his brother to make a U-turn and follow them, according to authorities. William told detectives they followed the trucks to the crime scene area and that he stayed in the truck while his brother Tony got out and confronted Keven Springfield. According to a press release, Tony punched Springfield and accused him of stealing his truck. The release says the other two victims, Brandon Rollins and Damion Tillman, got out of their truck and Tony continued to yell at all of them. William told detectives he watched as his brother Tony shot all three victims, according to the sheriff's office. Judd said during a press conference on Wednesday that Tony shot the victims several times, the exact number is still being investigated. More than a hundred people in the Cleveland area are facing federal charges relating to crimes targeted under Operation Legend, according to an update from the U.S. Attorney’s Office.A total of 101 people have been charged. Of those, 59 people have been brought up on narcotics charges, authorities said. Thirty-eight people have been charged with firearm offenses, and four individuals have been charged with violent crimes.“Thanks to the hard work of all those involved in our collaborative law enforcement partnership, we have now charged over 100 defendants in Cleveland under Operation Legend,” said U.S. Attorney Justin Herdman. “Among those charged are career criminals, heroin and fentanyl traffickers, felons with rifles and other high-powered weapons, carjackers, bank robbers and many more. We will continue to pursue these violent criminals and drug traffickers until everyone in Cleveland can live safely and peacefully.”Operation Legend is a federal initiative that was rolled out in July across multiple cities in America, including Cleveland, targeting violent crimes.So far nation-wide, nearly 5,500 people have been arrested and more than 2,000 guns have been confiscated, authorities said. After responding to an online advertisement for French bulldog puppies last weekend, a Wooster, Ohio, family worries that they might have been taken advantage of. Not only do they not have the dog they were hoping to bring into their family, but they are also out more than ,500, the family said.In late August and in early November, the Mark family was forced to say goodbye to their two beloved dogs, one of which formerly belonged to Angela Mark's father who passed away earlier this year."That was all she had left of her father," Brady Mark said.The other dog, who passed away Nov. 15th, was a loveable American bulldog that was a companion animal to the Mark's teenage son. The family was taking the back-to-back losses pretty hard, Mark said, which explains why he and Angela so easily gravitated to an online advertisement for French bulldog puppies from a seller in Montana.The seller reportedly told Angela that a family member of his had also recently passed away. Unable to take care of the puppies himself, the seller reportedly said that he would offer a puppy at a steeply discounted rate but the Mark family would have to pay for shipping, which would be around 0.The seller could not be reached for comment and his online advertisement has been taken down.Angela says she was directed to use a Montana-based company, American Delivery Service. The company's fairly official-looking website says the company, "[aims] to provide pet owners with unique advanced solutions needed to fly with your pets." The website does not list an address and calls to the listed phone number were not answered.Additionally, there does not appear to be an official filing for American Deliver Service through the Montana Secretary of State's Office.In the contracts, messages and invoices from alleged representatives of American Delivery Service, there were numerous grammatical and spelling errors, as well as no official letterhead.In hindsight, Brady Mark said there were several red flags."We've been getting the runaround back and forth from the shipping company. Who's legitimate and who's not? We don't know yet," Mark said. "[Alleged company representatives] said, 'hey we need more money for this this and this.' We still have no dog and we're about 00 deep right now, probably even more than that."Mark said the alleged company went as far as to provide short videos and other media showing dogs in shipping containers, apparently suggesting the Mark's new puppy was in transit. There was also a shipment tracking number provided on the invoices. However, at every turn, there were demands for hundreds of dollars in order to pay for things like vaccines and special dog carriers.Angela Mark said an alleged company representative said the dog was waiting at a local airport and would be released to the family upon final payment. However, Brady Mark said he called the airport and an airport representative told him there weren't any animals in holding.Brady Mark said he and his wife have both come to the belief that their money may never be coming back."We borrowed money off of our daughter," Brady Mark said. "[Angela's] mom stepped in to try to help us out. We didn't just screw ourselves. We screwed other people in the process. It's going to screw us at the end of the month when bills start coming due. We might be short on rent. It's not their problem, it's ours. Still, if it can help somebody else to avoid what we just went through, so be it. If it prevents it happening from someone else, I guess I'll be that goat."According to the Better Business Bureau, so-called puppy scams have grown in number and in complexity in recent years.
