SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The San Diego native trapped beneath snow for several minutes following an avalanche is thanking those who saved him.“Big props to the civilian skiers around us who were very prepared. There was a bunch of people with avalanche gear and shovels who acted incredibly quickly and were able to dig me out,” said Evan Huck.Huck and his wife Kahlynn were among five skiers and snow boarders rescued after an avalanche Friday at the Squaw Valley Ski Resort near Lake Tahoe.RELATED: San Diego native and wife caught in Squaw Valley avalancheHuck grew up on Coronado and recently got married to Kahlynn. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The wife of Cal Fire San Diego fire engineer Cory Iverson spoke to 10News about her life following her husband's death while he battled the Thomas Fire last year.Cory Iverson died December 14th battling the Thomas Fire in Ventura County.  The 32-year-old fire apparatus engineer died after he getting caught in a swarm of spot fires in the Fillmore area.He leaves behind his wife Ashley, their 3 year old daughter Evie, and baby Taylor, due in May.Ashley Iverson described her life following her husband's death as the "most horrible and wonderful and terrible and amazing" experience she's ever endured."It's ceaseless," Iverson said of the outpouring of support following her husband's death. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Thousands of SDG&E customers were left in the dark in Central San Diego, as an power outage hit late Wednesday.The outage affected about 5,800 customers in the Sorrento Valley, Mira Mesa, and Scripps Ranch areas just after 5 p.m., according to SDG&E's outage map. Those still without power dropped to about 1,900 customers by about 6 p.m.It's unclear what caused the outage. Crews were assessing the issue and estimated power would be restored by 8 p.m. up to 9:30 p.m. in some areas.Other outages were also reported in the Oceanside and Poway areas around the same time as well. SDG&E estimates power to be retored to those areas around 8 p.m. as well.10News is monitoring this breaking news. 728
