SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Friends of the Marine hit and killed in the Midway area said Monday the driver who struck him and left is a coward.Victor Molinar, 18, of Chicago had just graduated from boot camp and was stationed at Camp Pendleton about to start combat training. Ricardo Camacho met him in basic training and got the terrible news over the weekend.“He was a good kid, always say making people laugh. He had a good head on his shoulders. From the start when I met him, I knew he’d be a good Marine," said Camacho.Molinar was out with his friends Saturday night visiting the local night spots on Midway Drive and somehow got separated from his friends. They went to look for him and found his body in the road.Police say the driver who hit Molinar fled the scene. No suspect has been identified.“He was willing to give up his life defending his country and do all the right things and for him to do that and not even stopping to see who it was? It just sucks," Camacho said.Camacho told 10News the Marines have a buddy system and doesn’t know why Molinar was by himself. Police are looking for the suspect, but have little to go on right now. Camacho, who is having a hard time coping with his loss, told 10News he knows one thing about the suspect. “He’s a coward. Bottom line. Karma plays a big part in things, and he’ll get his. If he ran then he won’t come forward they’ll just have to find him. If he didn't do it then. He won’t come forward. Just like cowards do, they run.”Molinar's sister said she is devastated by the loss of her brother. He also leaves behind a girlfriend in Chicago. 1606

We met State Senate President Pro-Tem Toni Atkins at a coastal event for research on climate change. Atkins says it’s everyday attention to universal issues like this that further acceptance of openly gay leaders like her. Christine Kehoe was San Diego’s first openly gay politician. She was elected to the San Diego City Council in 1993 and went on to serve more than a decade in the State Assembly and Senate. “The fact is there are a lot of people who blazed trails to allow me to serve; to allow Toni Atkins, Jen Campbell, Georgette Gomez, Chris Ward….our cup really runneth over in San Diego." Assembly member Todd Gloria said no one should hide who they are. "I think I'm a better elected official because of who I am. Someone taking up the slow lane on one of the scooters.California vehicle codes prohibit electric scooters on any road with a speed limit of more than 25 miles per hour.CHP officer Jim Bettencourt says he’s even seen them on the Coronado Bridge. A sign clearly states that pedestrians, bicycles and motor-driven cycles prohibited.As drivers go onto the bridge, not even an inch of space exists on the shoulder. In fact, the City of Coronado banned the dockless bikes and scooters in march.If left parked, they’ll be impounded. Seven records were set, including:Escondido: 111 degrees (old record was 108 in 1984)Ramona: 112 degrees (old record was 102 in 2006)Alpine: 113 degrees (old record was 110 in 1984)El Cajon: 114 degrees (old record was 107 in 1984)Palomar Mountain: 97 degrees (old record was 96 in 1955)Campo: 108 degrees (old record was 104 in 1955)Borrego Springs: 117 degrees (old record was 113 in 1989)Poway unofficially set an all-time record of 113 degrees, but it falls out of the National Weather Services 30-year period of record.Temperatures across the county on Saturday were forecasted to hit as high as 122 while many coastal areas could see high 90s.Saturday into Sunday, overnight temperatures along the coast, inland, and mountain areas will hover in the 70s most of the night, and 90s and 80s in the deserts.
