CORONADO (KGTV) - The 200 million dollar project is being called the "Reimagination" of the Hotel del Coronado. The plans have been in the works for almost 20 years according to Coronado resident Felicia Bell, "17 years ago in 2002 when it was first presented to our community and the California Coastal Commission". Bell tells 10News the Hotel del holds a special place in everyone's heart, "my two daughters were married there".The beachfront resort just celebrated its 130th anniversary. The history makes it much more than a resort to the community, "this represents our history here in Coronado this is the key to the rest of the whole island" Kitt Walker tells 10News. Walker and her husband have lived in Coronado for years and say it's a staple piece for the community, "if it hadn’t been for the hotel del, Coronado wouldn’t even be here to speak of". In fact, Richard Walker gave walking tours of the resort for years. They both have ties close to the resort. They're looking forward to the repairs in order to preserve the resort for many more years to come. The first phase of the project includes the first of two underground parking structures. The entire project also includes adding 142 new guest rooms, a new Conference Center and repairs to the roof. The entire project is expected to be complete by the end of 2021. Bell tells 10News the construction could cause some headaches but they'll be worth it, "which will be noisy dusty dirty incovienent but at the end I think it will be a beautiful project". Many in the community say it's well overdue and a small price to pay to keep the Hotel del around for another 100 years, "if it hadn’t been for the Hotel del, Coronado wouldn’t even be here to speak of" Walker tells 10News. 1755

(KGTV) - The Mayor of Coronado is turning heads for an op-ed he recently penned.Mayor Richard Bailey wrote a several hundred word submission for the Voice of San Diego this week titled, ‘It's Time to Put Roads Over Transit.’Citing SANDAG’s figures, Bailey says more than 50 percent of local transportation dollars are spent to move just 3.5 percent of commuters while roughly 13.5 percent of funs are spent on roads and highways.He also points to relatively stagnant public transportation ridership rates while traffic congestion balloons in San Diego County.“I can't foresee us moving people around on fixed routes on large empty buses and also really expensive trolley lines,” said Bailey, “I think people are going to be looking for more nimble solutions such as a autonomous vehicles and ride share options.”Transit advocates say shifting funds from public transportation as Bailey suggests would have a negative impact on those who already use it.“About 64,000 households in the San Diego County area don't have a car and it’s just absurd to think that we're going to take away their primary means of transportation,” said Colin Parent, executive director of Circulate San Diego.Parent agrees with Bailey that the ridership figure is small but says the answer is growing that figure, not stifling it by shrinking its budget.SANDAG will vote later this on its multi-decade regional transit plan. 1429

Country music star and philanthropist Dolly Parton is being credited for saving the life of a young co-star while filming her latest Christmas movie."We were on set, and I was at the hot chocolate station, and they said 'Go back to your beginning positions,'" Talia Hill, age 9, said in an interview with Inside Edition. "So, there is a vehicle moving, and I was walking, and then somebody grabbed me and pulled me back and I looked up and it was Dolly Parton."Hill said she was in shock.“And she said ‘"Well, I am an angel, you know,’” a reference to Parton’s role in the Netflix film “Christmas on the Square.”“She hugged me and shook me and said, 'I saved your life!'" Hill said. "And my mom's going, 'Yes, you did, Dolly Parton. COACHELLA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Another puppy was discovered in a dumpster at Coachella just weeks after a woman was arrested for reportedly leaving seven puppies in a trash can. According to the Animal Hope and Wellness Foundation, the puppy was found badly beaten and burned in a dumpster on the 49000 block of Harrison Street around 1 p.m. on May 5. Someone digging through the trash heard the puppy crying and took her to a nearby jewelry store, where she was rushed to an animal hospital. RELATED: Woman arrested after puppies dumped in trash can at Coachella“It appears as if she was burned with a caustic substance, or a metal object like an iron,” the foundation said. The weeks-old puppy also had a portion of her tail cut off and can’t walk due to being beaten. The puppy, whose name is Hope, is currently in intensive care and being monitored 24 hours a day. The foundation is offering a ,000 reward for information leading to an arrest of the person responsible. The incident comes after a woman identified as Deborah Sue Culwell, 54, was arrested for reportedly dumping seven puppies in a dumpster at Coachella. The puppies were only about three weeks old. A good Samaritan was able to rescue the puppies, saving their lives. 1246

CLEVELAND — A Cleveland school security guard who was charged with rape, accused of soliciting and sexually assaulting multiple students, was reported for inappropriate behavior to Cleveland Metropolitan School District months before he was arrested. Derrick Dugger, 29, a security guard at East Technical High School in Cleveland is due back in court Tuesday morning for the charges. According to court records, investigators said he forced a 15-year-old girl to perform oral sex and sent inappropriate messages to students. A detective wrote in the report that Dugger was “predatory” and “a danger to these young ladies.”Dugger was formally charged with rape last week after an investigation began earlier in November, but one Cleveland family told Scripps affiliate WEWS-TV that they reported him months before.According to Joyce Swann, her 15-year-old daughter who has special needs made a complaint about Dugger soon after the school year began at East Technical High School.A CMSD report of that complaint obtained by WEWS is dated September 7 — more than 2 months before Dugger was charged.In the report, Swann’s daughter told the dean that at first, the guard asked her if she had a boyfriend and asked to check her phone. The next day, he greeted her by saying, “Good morning baby.”After that, the student reported, the guard told her he “liked the way she twerked that a**” on Instagram.The student said she felt uncomfortable and reported it to the dean, who called her mother and told her they would take a report and investigate.But Swann said she never heard an update until the day Dugger was charged.“Who would say that to a little kid? You’re supposed to be making sure these kids are safe and you’re preying on them,” Swann said.She said she is terrified of what could have happened had her daughter not reported it — and angry that the school didn’t do more initially.“My daughter is a special needs child.
