Both the COVID-19 pandemic and conversations about race happening now are shining a light on mental health.One in five adults experience mental illness each year. Only one in three Black adults who need mental health care are getting it.The reasons range from socioeconomic disparities, like access to health insurance, to the stigma in the Black community around getting this care.Another issue, the latest numbers from the American Psychological Association show 4% of psychologists in the U.S. are Black.“You know, I think a lot of these guys, they've been going to the same barber since they were 5 years old or maybe only went to a couple of barbers in their whole life and so it's their relationship,” said Lorenzo Lewis, founder of The Confess Project, which trains barbers to become mental health advocates.That training includes learning active listening, positive communication, validation and stigma reduction.Lewis says the barbershop is a good place for this because it's really the only place in the Black community, besides the church, where everyone from all socioeconomic backgrounds come. And they visit more frequently than they would their own doctor.He says he recognized the need for mental health help among black men, but saw it wasn't accessible to them.He is hearing conversations in barbershops change especially now with the issues the Black community is facing.“I think, if nothing else, it is more of a preparation conversation around life success and what in which we know when individuals are successful in life, career, health and their relationships, that they will have a quality mental health,” said Lewis.The mental health training for barbers is being offered in some cities in person, or you can take the virtual course. BELDING, Mich. — We’ve all likely experienced delays with the post office, but probably not like this. A Belding, Michigan, woman says she just got a postcard on Tuesday that was postmarked 100 years ago.“Yea, that’s a little too slow,” Brittany Keech said about a potential USPS delay in delivering a postcard.When she walked to her mail on Tuesday, she had no idea what she was about to find.“It was sitting right on top of the mail,” she said.It was an old Halloween postcard that was possibly lost in the mail.“I start looking at it and I’m like, ‘Okay, it’s been through some wear and tear,'" she said.You can see just how old it is. There’s a George Washington one-cent stamp in the corner, and a postmark of October 29, 1920.Keech talked about the front of the card that fits with this time of year.“It shows a witch with a cat and and a goose and an owl and says, ‘Halloween greetings. (KGTV) -- A new study released this July says ride-sharing services like Uber and Lyft are actually contributing to heavier traffic. The study, conducted by Schaller?Consulting, found that ride-sharing companies compete mainly with public transportation, walking and biking. So instead of taking a bus or train, customers use services that put more vehicles on the road.The study found that even services like UberPOOL and Lyft Shared Rides, while claiming to reduce traffic, still add mileage to city streets and do not offset the impacts of UberX and Lyft.The shared rides add to traffic because, according to the study, users are switching from non-auto modes of travel like biking.According to the data, the metropolitan areas of Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington D.C. are home to 70 percent of Uber and Lyft trips. It’s not all bad news though. The study also found that ride-share services can help provide support for seniors, people with low incomes and those with disabilities.In addition, the same companies show promise in providing subsidized connections to different forms of public transportation. 1229

Baton Rouge Police Officer Blane Salamoni has been fired for violating use-of-force polices in the Alton Sterling shooting, Chief Murphy Paul told reporters Friday evening while also releasing four videos, several of which graphically show Sterling as he lay dying.Paul said Howie Lake II, the other officer involved in the July 2016 incident, will be suspended for three days without pay for losing his temper during the incident.The four videos that were released include a convenience store surveillance video, two police-worn body camera videos and a video recorded by the dashboard camera in one of the police cars.Video from Lake's body camera shows the officer approaching Sterling, trying to get him to put his hands on the hood of a car, and eventually struggling with him on the ground. During the altercation, another person, presumably Officer Blane Salamoni, screams, "He's got a gun!" and soon thereafter gunshots are heard.When the officers get up, Sterling is lying on the ground outside the front door of the convenience store with a blood-soaked red shirt.The gun is not visible in the video but Lake tells another officer he put it in his car. The officers had been responding to a call about a man with a gun. The call was from a homeless man who said that after he approached Sterling for money, Sterling showed him the weapon.CNN is reviewing the other videos.The two officers had separate disciplinary hearings Thursday night. Paul said Salamoni chose not to answer any questions at his disciplinary hearing. Lake answered every question, the chief said.When asked what he would say to the Sterling family, the police chief said: "They are in our prayers. ....
