Consumers will soon be able to rent tools at Lowe's.On Wednesday, the home improvement company announced that customers would be able to borrow tools at Lowe's stores nationwide, with the first rental department rolling out Thursday in Charlotte, N.C."For all of our customers, having the right tool is key to every project, but they may not always want to purchase a new tool or piece of equipment. Lowe's Tool Rental helps customers save on the cost of owning, maintaining, and storing the tools they need," said Fred Stokes, senior vice president of Pro Sales and Services for Lowe's in a news release. "As the new home for Pros, offering tool rental is just another way we are committed to keeping them working. Whether a Pro's tool fails on the job, needs a repair or they're looking to try something new, tool rental will allow them to get back to the job site faster, saving them time and money."The company said that each store's Tool Rental department will be about 4,000 square feet that would be a fully equipped mechanic shop to service tools, space for on-site cleaning and product demo areas. To rent, consumers will select the device they need, confirm the rental date, and reserve it online. The tools available for rent will be drain cleaning, restoration, sanitation, and concrete tools with brands such as Husqvarna, Bosch, and Metabo HPT.The company has 2,200 home improvement and hardware stores in the U.S. and Canada. 1446

CLEWISTON, Fla., -- Three Clewiston High School football players have been kicked off the team after they were seen in a music video waving fake guns and flashing gang signs. Parents say the kids meant no harm and the consequences are too harsh. “Football is his way out, so taking that away from him really crushes his dream," said LaTwyiaen Carter, mother of Trayquan Williams, a senior football player that was asked to leave after he was seen rapping in the music video. Carter pointed out that Hendry County Deputies also appeared in the video and that the "kids were just having fun." She says at least four officers were around when the kids filmed it, even helping them create it. “They didn’t have to kick them off the team," Carter said. "Suspending them for a game, yes. Kicking them off, no." Carter says her son has dreams of playing football at the University of Florida. She says those dreams could be diminished now.The Hendry County Deputy Superintendent was less sympathetic to the video. “That type of behavior was so egregious and appalling that we cannot tolerate that at Clewiston High School," Robert Egley said. Egley says that even though the video happened off-campus, the video is not the type of student-athlete "role models" Clewiston should have. "Once he’s grown and out of school, he can do whatever he wants to do," Egley said. "Coaches have talked to their students about the dangers and parallels of social media." Egley later said there are no social media policies in the school handbook that pertain to off-campus behavior. Nevertheless, Carter says without football, she worries her son will give up on his dreams altogether. "He’s going to give up, he’s going to feel like nothing matters now… [He said,] 'they act like I killed somebody,' I said yeah, they really do,” she said. Carter says her son has written apology letters to his principal and his teammates and will do anything he can to get back on the team.  2089

Conventions may at times seem like it's all about the confetti and speeches, but what Joe Biden and Kamala Harris want more than anything after this Democratic Convention is what's known as a "post-convention bounce." The phrase describes an increase in support in the polls immediately following a convention HISTORIC BOUNCESSince 1968, presidential campaigns have, on average, received a 5 percent increase in the polls following their conventions. Since 2004, convention bounces have been getting smaller, with the average being around 2 percent. WHY BIDEN MIGHT NOT GET A BIG BOUNCE"People have had a bit more time to evaluate the candidates already (and) maybe opinions are a little more locked," Professor Thomas Holbrook of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee said, commenting on the fact bounces have been tougher and tougher to get. Apart from recent history working against the Biden campaign, television ratings are down compared to four years ago. "There could be fewer persuadable voters," Holbrook added. There is also the fact President Donald Trump has his convention next week. WHAT THE CAMPAIGNS THINKBiden advisers aren't as concerned with the lower television ratings, saying more Americans are live streaming the convention on their laptops and cellphones than ever before. 1306

CINCINNATI, Ohio - Cincinnati Reds and Fox Sports Ohio broadcaster Thom Brennaman tells WCPO he has resigned from his position more than one month after he was suspended for using a homophobic slur on air.“My family and I have decided that I am going to step away from my role as the television voice of the Cincinnati Reds,” Brennaman wrote to WCPO. “I would like to thank the Reds, Reds fans, and the LGBTQ community for the incredible support and grace they have shown my family and me.“Brennaman has been suspended from the Cincinnati Reds since the Aug. 19 incident. He had been with the Reds since 2006.“I have been in this profession that I love for 33 years,” he wrote. “It is my hope and intention to return. And if I'm given that opportunity, I will be a better broadcaster and a much better person.“WCPO reached out to the Cincinnati Reds and Fox Sports Ohio for comment."The Reds respect Thom Brennaman’s decision to step away from the broadcast booth and applaud his heartfelt efforts of reconciliation with the LGBTQ+ community," team CEO Bob Castellini wrote in a statement. "The Brennaman family has been an intrinsic part of the Reds history for nearly fifty years. We sincerely thank Thom for bringing the excitement of Reds baseball to millions of fans during his years in the booth. And, we appreciate the warm welcome Thom showed our fans at Redsfest and on the Reds Caravan. He is a fantastic talent and a good man who remains part of the Reds family forever. We wish him well."The incident happened when the broadcast was returning from a commercial break before the top of the seventh inning in the first game of a doubleheader against the Kansas City Royals. An off-camera Brennaman described an unknown city as "one of the (expletive) capitals of the world" during the broadcast.Fox Sports Ohio later clarified that the audio-only went out to viewers streaming the game, not on over-the-air television.Brennaman apologized later in the second game before leaving the broadcast booth.“I made a comment earlier tonight that I guess went out over the air that I am deeply ashamed of,” Brennaman said. “If I have hurt anyone out there, I can’t tell you how much I say, from the bottom of my heart, I’m so very, very sorry. I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith … I don’t know if I’m going to be putting on this headset again.”Following a column by WCPO 9 News anchor Evan Millward about the history and context of the slur, Brennaman penned another apology.Thom, the son of Hall of Fame broadcaster Marty Brennaman, has been with FOX Sports for the past 27 years, covering primarily baseball and football during that time.FOX Sports removed Brennaman from its NFL season after the incident.“FOX Sports is extremely disappointed with Thom’s remarks during Wednesday’s Cincinnati Reds telecast,” the network said in a statement. “The language used was abhorrent, unacceptable, and not representative of the values of FOX Sports. As it relates to Brennaman’s FOX NFL role, we are moving forward with our NFL schedule which will not include him.”Brennaman had been a part of Fox’s NFL announcer lineup since they started televising the league in 1994. He was part of the No. 3 announcer team last season and was paired with analyst Chris Spielman and reporter Shannon Spake. He had also called Major League Baseball games for the network from 1996 to 2014.Although most regional networks still carry the Fox Sports name, they are not owned by Fox. Sinclair Broadcast Group bought them in 2019.“I am grateful for the forgiveness so many have extended to me, especially those in the LGBTQ community who I have met, spoken with and listened to almost daily over the last five week,” Brennaman wrote Friday. “With their continued guidance, I hope to be a voice for positive change.”Brennaman declined to speak on camera with WCPO about the incident or resignation on Friday afternoon. This story was first reported by Evan Millward at WCPO in Cincinnati, Ohio. 3996
