Humane Society Law Enforcement Officers seized more than 80 birds from one unit Jan. 23. They were flying freely through the home, creating an unhealthy situation, shelter officials said.Veterinarians cleared the birds for adoption. The cockatiels will need socialization and time to adjust to their new homes, according to the Humane Society. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Border Patrol agents arrested a man Thursday they say had more than 100 pounds of narcotics in his car.According to the agency, the arrest happened just before 11 a.m. on October 8 along Interstate 15 near Vista.Border Patrol says agents initiated a vehicle stop “on a suspicious 2015 Chevy Camaro” when a K-9 alerted authorities.After searching the car, agents found 68 bundles of cocaine and crystal meth hidden inside the vehicle’s quarter panels and cowling. The narcotics have an estimated street value of more than 8,000.The driver, who is a US citizen, was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Agency.Since October 1, Border Patrol says it has seized over 491 pounds of cocaine, 7,169 pounds of methamphetamine, 178 pounds of heroin, and 383 pounds of fentanyl. 798

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Chicano history will be celebrated in San Diego this week at one of the city's most historic parks.On April 20, the Logan Heights community will celebrate the 49th annual Chicano Park Day at the famed park underneath the Coronado Bridge. The free festival brings together community members annually for art, education, entertainment, and honoring Chicano culture and the park.This year theme will be "Danzantes, Protectors of Our Traditions and Chicano Park, 500 Years of Anti-Colonial Struggle."Performances are scheduled by a lineup of traditional and cultural dance groups and one of the largest Aztec Indigenous dance performances by Danza Azteca Calpulli Mexihca. In addition to dancing, kids art workshops, speakers, and more than 325 classic lowrider cars and bikes will be on display. Attendees can also visit various arts and crafts, and informational booths throughout the colorful park.And, of course, there's the food, which will be sprinkled throughout the park at various booths.The event comes a couple days before the official establishment of Chicano Park on April 22, 1970, by activists. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – Authorities are searching for a person suspected of starting a trash can fire that scorched the side of a Normal Heights home early Thursday morning.At around 2 a.m., San Diego Fire-Rescue crews were called to the 3300 block of Meade Avenue in response to a trash can on fire next to a house.Some residents told ABC 10News they heard noises at the trash cans and the saw a fire begin to ignite.Screams from residents apparently scared off a person believed to have sparked the blaze.As fire crews arrived, flames from the trash can burned the side of one house. The fire was quickly knocked down before it could engulf the entire home.ABC 10News learned one person was displaced due to the fire; no injuries were reported.A description of the person suspected of starting the fire was not immediately available.Arson investigators are involved in the fire probe. 889

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Cruise ship cancellations amid the Coronavirus pandemic have cost the region more than 0 million in lost economic activity, according to the Port of San Diego.The Port says since March, 75 cruises have canceled, meaning a 6 million loss in retail, restaurant, lodging and related transportation and shipping services. The 2020-2021 season, which was supposed to start Sept. 13, has already seen 49 cancellations. "When it’s safe for sailings to resume, we will do what we can to work with and support our cruise and public health partners to ensure the safety of cruise passengers, terminal staff, and the public," the Port said in a statement. The loss is hitting tourism-related businesses, already suffering from a loss of conventions, and social distancing restrictions. Chuck Abbott, general manager of the Intercontinental Hotel San Diego, just steps from the terminal, said cruisers usually stay a night pre or post cruise."It's still an amount of business that comes, which is beneficial," he said. "They're on leisure, and those people usually like to dine out and enjoy things."The CDC has halted cruising through at least Sept. 30. If that expires, San Diego's next arrival would be Nov. 5 through the Carnival Miracle.
