BEIJING, Sept. 26 (Xinhua) -- Chinese farmers would see their income continue to rise this year, Vice Minister of Agriculture Chen Xiaohua said at a press conference Saturday.     "As China's economy is recovering, there are more and more positive factors supporting the increase of farmers' income," said Chen.     Farmers' per capita cash income in the first half of this year reached 2,733 yuan (400 U.S. dollars), up 8.1 percent year on year. But the increase rate was 2.2 percentage points slower than that in the same period last year, according to Chen.     "The growth is remarkable and the statistics are pleasing. However, China is still short of a long-term mechanism for increasing farmers' income and efforts need to be made to increase the channels for farmers to earn more money," said Chen.     In the past, farmers' income was mainly driven up by increased grain production or raised prices. "Now, we should push forward agricultural industrialization to let market guide grain planting and agricultural production," Chen said.     Chen also stressed the importance of creating more jobs for surplus rural laborers in a bid to increase their salary income.     The salary income mainly comes from the earnings from working in local or urban enterprises.     The economic crisis reduced the number of Chinese migrant workers, with the current number standing around 225 million. In the second quarter this year, this number increased 2.6 percent from the first.     Chen also said the government will increase fiscal support for farmers in subsidizing their purchase of seed, diesel, fertilizer and other production materials.     The central government always gives priority to increasing farmers' income, he said.     "Local authorities should make every effort to keep increasing farmers' income to shore up rural development and to ensure stable and rapid economic development," Chinese Vice Primer Hui Liangyu said at a rural work conference held in China's eastern city of Hangzhou from Thursday to Friday.

BEIJING, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- The General Office of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council issued a collection of slogans Friday for the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.     The collection of 50 catchphrases touches upon issues of political system, economic development, environmental protection, military modernization and national unification.     On the top of the slogan list are "Warmly celebrate the 60th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China!" and "Hail the great success of our country's reform and opening-up and socialist modernization!"     Also on the list are "Put people first, realize, safeguard and develop the fundamental interests of the overwhelming majority of the people!" and "build a socialist harmonious society and promote social equity and justice!"     One of the slogans also advocates the inheritance of fine military tradition that the armed forces should obey the command of the Party and serve the people.     Slogans also include "Adhere to the one China policy and promote the country's great cause of peaceful reunification!" and "Adhere to the independent foreign policy of peace and unswervingly pursue the road of peaceful development!" and "Long live the great unity of all nationalities of China!"     China has planned massive celebrations for the 60th founding anniversary of the people's republic on Oct. 1. The celebrations in downtown Beijing will feature a mass pageant and a military review.

MOSCOW, July 30 (Xinhua) -- Chinese merchants will be allowed to retrieve their goods in a closed Moscow market, the head of a Chinese coordination group said on Thursday.     A Chinese coordination group on Thursday discussed with Moscow's consumer department the clearing up of Chinese merchants' stalls in the Cherkizovsky market as well as the transferring of their goods.     The Russian side agreed to take further steps to safeguard the market's order and to work with the Chinese side to crack down on the illegal activities, said Cai Guiru, head of the temporary Chinese coordination group and chairperson of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Russia.     It is agreed that Chinese merchants will be allowed to clean up their stalls and ship out their merchandise during a specific period of time every day, Cai said.     The Russian side took "sincere and earnest" attitudes towards the handling of the market closure, in the hope that most of the Chinese merchants will be able to retrieve their goods safely, she said.     This meeting is helpful and the Russian side heard positive opinions from Chinese vendors, said Georgy Smoleyevcky, first deputy head of the Moscow Consumer Market and Services Department.     The Russian side will make conclusions accordingly and give instructions to relevant departments, he said, expressing the hope that complaints from Chinese traders will be less and less in future.     The official also dismissed the speculation that a Chinese shopping mall will be built in the place of the closed Cherkizovsky, Russia's biggest wholesale market.     The coordination group, formed under the auspices of the Chinese embassy in Russia in July, involves heads of China's provincial chambers of commerce.     Russian police abruptly shut down the nearly 300-hectare market in northeastern Moscow on June 29, after the disclosure of various illegal and irregular operations in the market by the Russian Federal Supervision Service for Consumer Rights Protection and People Welfare.     A Chinese senior delegation, led by Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng, reached broad consensus with the Russian side on the closure issue.

HONG KONG, July 20 (Xinhua) -- A photo exhibition opened here Monday to mark the 30 anniversary of the establishment of China-U.S. diplomatic relations.     The nearly 300 photos on display range in time from as far back as the voyage to China of the American trading ship Empress of China in 1784, to the G-20 Summit in London this year. Guests attend the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-U.S. diplomatic relations in Hong Kong, south China, July 20, 2009. Nearly 300 photos were displayed in the exhibition. The photos reflect important economic, political and cultural events in the growth of the relations between the two countries, portraying a history of building bridges of understanding and cooperation between the two countries through high-level visits as well as the actions of thousands of individuals, companies, student groups and civic organizations.     "China-U.S. relations have made remarkable progress since 1979,with the joint efforts of four generations of Chinese leaders and seven U.S. presidents as well as the people of both countries," said Tung Chee-hwa, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, at the opening ceremony. Tung Chee-hwa (Front), vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, visits a photo exhibition marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-U.S. diplomatic relations in Hong Kong, south China, July 20, 2009. Nearly 300 photos were displayed in the exhibition, opened on July 20. He said that the exhibition will provide an opportunity for people to know further about the importance of Sino-U.S. relations so that they will make greater efforts to promote the relations.     Also speaking at the ceremony, U.S. Consul General in Hong Kong and Macao Joseph R. Donovan said that U.S.-China relations had been marked by success and challenges.     "Despite the scale of the task we have faced, each succeeding generation of leaders, diplomats, and individuals has broadened and strengthened the U.S.-China relations," he said, noting that the exhibition offers "snapshots" of their dedication and efforts.   A woman visits a photo exhibition marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-U.S. diplomatic relations in Hong Kong, south China, July 20, 2009. Nearly 300 photos were displayed in the exhibition, opened on July 20.  "Given Hong Kong's role as one of China's gateways fostering the interplay of culture and ideas between our two nations, it is quite fitting that we come together, in Hong Kong, to celebrate thirty years of cooperation between the U.S. and China," he said.     The exhibition is jointly presented by the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Chinese People's Association For Friendship with Foreign Countries and China-U.S. Exchange Foundation, in association with the Xinhua News Agency and some other media groups.

support to the Chinese government's measures to maintain social order and stability.     In an interview with Xinhua on Friday, Bernard Boussougou Moungonga, a researcher with a Gabonese humanities institute, said he backed the Chinese government's measures to maintain stability in Xinjiang.     Moungonga condemned the separatist forces operating outside China for attempting to split China, adding that all these schemes are doomed to fail.     It is imperative for leaders of any country to brush aside intervention by external forces and guarantee the safety of their citizens' life and property, he said.     Moungonga, who has visited Xinjiang as a visiting scholar, said he was deeply impressed by the fact that all ethnic groups in Xinjiang live in harmony and their culture and traditions are fully respected.     Syrian Ambassador to China Khalaf Al-Jarad said Friday that his country supports the Chinese government in taking necessary measures to safeguard security, stability and public order in Xinjiang.     In a written interview with Xinhua, Al-Jarad said the Syrian government fully supports China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and is against any interference in the country's internal affairs by finding whatever excuse.     He said he had been very much impressed by Xinjiang's prosperity when he visited China in 2003 in his capacity as editor-in-chief of a Syrian newspaper.     He said that the 56 ethnic groups in China share equal rights and jointly shoulder responsibilities to develop the country.     "People of different ethnic groups in Xinjiang who believe in faith lead normal religious lives, live together in peace and harmony like brothers and sisters, and are content with their lives. This is typical of the Chinese society at large," Al-Jarad said.     The ambassador said he believed the July 5 riot was aimed at disrupting stability, undermining the harmony and close links among the various ethnic groups, and undercutting social development.     He said it was necessary for the Chinese government to take actions to protect Xinjiang's stability, restore law and order, and prevent extremists and outside forces from disrupting Xinjiang's peace and stability.     Al-Jarad said violence has nothing to do with religion, and goes against the religious doctrines of peace and fraternity.     Li Liangyi, a Singaporean expert on tourism told Xinhua that the July riot in Urumqi disrupted the harmonious development in Xinjiang, and is definitely against the will of the general public in China.     He said he is confident that the Chinese government will take measures in accordance with the law and promptly restore order in Xinjiang.     It is the responsibility of the government to maintain ethnic harmony and safeguard social stability and economic development, Li said.     A handful of people undermined social harmony in Xinjiang and caused great loss of life and property, he said, adding that their violent acts must be condemned.     In an interview with Xinhua, Yakov Berger, a senior research fellow with the Institute of Far Eastern Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences said that the July 5 violence in Xinjiang seriously affected the stability of the region, and the Chinese government's measures to maintain social order are fully appropriate.     He said the separatist forces from inside and outside the country had plotted to create social unrest and undermine ethnic unity, so it is necessary for the Chinese government to take measures to prevent the recurrence of similar incidents.
