SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) -- Two men used semi-automatic handguns to rob a T-Mobile store Tuesday afternoon, according to San Diego Police. Police say the incident happened around 12:40 p.m. at the T-Mobile store on the 4300 block of Camino De La Plaza. The men reportedly walked into the store wearing white masks before taking several phones and fleeing the scene in what police describe as a four-door subcompact vehicle. Police were unable to find the suspects after setting up a perimeter and searching the area. Detectives are investigating the incident. 569

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (KGTV) -- Fast-moving floodwaters swept a vehicle away in Santa Clarita Thursday as what is being called an “atmospheric river” set up over the area, according to KABC. The incident happened along Road Runner Road, per tweets from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Santa Clarity Valley station.Due to the flooding the road was shut down. The driver was able to make it out of the vehicle safely thanks to good Samaritans.The man's car was totaled, but before he even had a chance to dry off, a neighbor bought him a replacement SUV, KABC reported.  598

SARASOTA, Fla. — The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested 21 people during an Operation Intercept V, an initiative to protect Sarasota County children from online predators. The suspects, ranging in age from 22 to 58, responded to internet-based ads, online apps or social media sites and engaged in sexually explicit written and verbal conversations, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.One of the suspects promised to stay with a 14-year-old child if he impregnated her while another agreed to have sex with who he believed was a 12-year-old. More than four of the men brought condoms and some offered to bring drugs. Several suspects sent explicit photos. They all traveled with the intent to have sex with a male or female child, according to deputies. “You would think the frequency of Internet predator operations here in Sarasota County and surrounding jurisdictions would reduce the number of criminals prowling online for the sole purpose of sexually exploiting children,” Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight said. “Unfortunately, for some reason, they still think it’s OK to disrupt our community and the children within it. Let this be a reminder for parents to stay cognizant of what their children are doing in this new age of technology. Remember to be a parent. SEATTLE — Add marine wildlife to the growing list of life affected by America’s opioid crisis.For the first time, scientists have detected traces of oxycodone in mussels near Seattle, KIRO7 reported. Biologist Jennifer Lanksbury explained whatever people eat and excrete — including opioids — end up in waterways.“It’s telling me there's a lot of people taking oxycodone in the Puget Sound area,” Lanksbury said. Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife officials extracted mussels from clean water and put them in urban areas they wanted to test for contamination. There was enough oxycodone in a Seattle-area bay for the mussels to test positive.The system that filters water catches a lot of contaminants, but it can’t specifically filter out drugs, Kings County Wastewater Management said.“Those are definitely chemicals that are out there in the nearshore waters and they may be having an impact on the fish and shellfish that live there,” Lanksbury said.The data was from a one-time study for prescription drugs in Washington’s waterways, but officials say they will try to get more funding to continue research. 1163

SAN TAN VALLEY, Ariz. — In-person schooling was supposed to begin Monday for the J. O. Combs School District, but a move by teachers and staff forced the district to cancel school for the day.On Friday, a J. O. Combs Spokesperson said 109 teachers and staff requested not to work on Monday."Due to these insufficient staffing levels, schools will not be able to re-open on Monday as planned. This means that all classes, including virtual learning, will be canceled," wrote J. O. Combs Superintendent Dr. Gregory Wyman in a letter to parents on Friday. "At this time, we do not know the duration of these staff absences, and cannot yet confirm when in-person instruction may resume."A teacher in the district said that one of the reasons teachers decided to call out Monday was that they felt unprepared to teach students virtually and in-person.Teachers are expected to simultaneously instruct students in the classroom and those at home via live stream. One teacher believes they were not adequately prepared to cater to both types of learners, since all of the educators' attention has been on executing online learning."The issue is that [a] teacher would not be able to tend to the online learners that are on Google," said a teacher in the district. "Even in-class learning must be modified for online. So it's a lose-lose for both types of learners."That teacher said only one hour of training was given for the live stream equipment."Some classes have as many as 36 [on] their roster or more. About half are choosing to stay home, so we really need to service our online learners."Aside from the feeling of unpreparedness from teachers, many feel unsafe since benchmarks set by the Arizona Department of Health Services have yet to be met by any of the school districts."My coworkers do not feel safe. Metrics being met is a big deal.
