SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego State University Saturday ordered all on-campus residents to stay at home over Labor Day Weekend amid an increase of coronavirus cases tied to the university.The university sent an email to students who live on campus, advising them to stay “in their current residences except for essential needs.”The “Stay at Home” order is in effect from 10 p.m. Saturday, September 5, through Tuesday, September 8 at 6 a.m.RELATED: San Diego State University reports 120 more COVID-19 cases since fall start“At that time, this order will be revisited and updated as necessary,” the university said of the order’s expected expiration.“Violations of this order may result in disciplinary consequences,” the school continued, although no specificities were given as to the consequences for violating the order.The announcement comes as the university has, so far, experienced 184 confirmed and probable COVID-19 cases since the start of the fall semester. 978

Gavin Newsom strongly asserted that more has to be done to battle the "climate emergency."Newsom toured the devastation at a park in Oroville, Calif., that was burned by the North Complex fire. Since the fire began on Aug. 18, the fire has burned 252,534 acres through Plumas, Butte, and Yuba counties and is 23% contained.It's one of 28 major wildfires burning across California, according to CAL FIRE.During his tour, the governor shot back at the debate over climate change and pledge to continue the state's efforts at lower carbon emissions. Newsom cited August being the state's hottest month in state history and annual drought conditions throughout the state."I'm a little exhausted that we have to continue to debate this issue. This is a climate, damn, emergency. This is real. And it's happening," Newsom said on Friday. "This is the perfect storm. It is happening in unprecedented ways. Year in and year out. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Saturday marked the first weekend San Diego County restaurants were under indoor dining restrictions and they've gotten creative to stay afloat during the pandemic.Monday the Governor announced San Diego County joined the state's watch list due to the spike in coronavirus cases.The county announced bars, restaurants, wineries, movie theaters, zoos, museums, and cardrooms will need to shutter indoor operations Monday night at midnight.Saturday on Harbor Island, Coasterra debuted a "pop up" dining experience on their 'float' that normally hosts events.Executive Chef and Partner in the Cohn Restaurant Group, Deborah Scott thought their event space on the water (dubbed The Float) was a perfect place for extra seating. Their sister restaurant Island Prime had to close it's doors, due to the new restrictions.So the Island Prime, moved to an island.On the 'float' they can seat up to 68 people, that's 68 plates that Island Prime can now sell at a time. Scott said they were booked Saturday, their first official night, but are not filling it to capacity.She said they want to make sure things run smoothly."My biggest fear is that everyone is going to come out here and have dinner and go, 'Can you just move Island Prime out here?'" She said chuckling. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego’s City Council unanimously approved several measures Tuesday they hope will make it easier for businesses to stay open amid the coronavirus pandemic.The first measure cements Mayor Kevin Faulconer’s executive order allowing some businesses to operate outdoors.The measure allows gyms, barber shops, churches and nail salons to expand business to private parking lots, sidewalks, and on-street parking.“Employees can return to work and families can again participate in programs and support our businesses, if they so desire,” said City Councilmember Chris Cate.Businesses will need to apply for a permit to operate outside, the city says.The second measure reallocates 0,000 from the city’s Small Business Relief Fund toward helping businesses in underserved communities.
