SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Home sales in San Diego County accelerated in July after declining on an annual basis for more than a year.New data from real-estate tracker CoreLogic shows 3,988 home sales in July, up 10.1 percent from July 2018. That marks the first time since April 2018 that home sales in the county did not decline on an annual basis, when seasonal factors do not impact the data. Meanwhile, the median price for a home sold in the county remained flat over the year at 0,000. In June, the average rate for a 30-year-fixed mortgage fell to 3.8 percent, according to Freddie Mac. That was the first time the rate was below 4 percent since Dec. 2017. It ticked down even lower in July to 3.77 percent. Mark Goldman, a loan officer with C2 Financial, said the lower rates likely helped people increase their buying power by 2 to 3 percent. "That same house is going to cost a little bit less, and help you afford more," he said. "A lot of times when market gives you something like lower rates, the market takes it back in the form of higher prices, and we’re not really seeing that."Goldman said there is less speculation in the market due to concerns that it has leveled off. Still, the median price of 0,000 is pricing people out of the county. For instance, Daniel Obrzut, who grew up in San Diego, bought a three bedroom home in Menifee, in southern Riverside County, for 0,000, where he is raising two daughters. He couldn't find anything similar locally."You're getting houses built in the 1960s, 1970s for 0-0-0,000," he said. "Just couldn't beat it, or it would be three quarters of a million or a million dollar house down here."San Diego County's 10 percent increase in sales activity was the highest in Southern California in July. 1775

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Five locations of the San Diego County YMCA reopened today. They include Dan McKinney, Jackie Robinson, Magdalena Ecke, McGrath Family, and the Mission Valley branches. But with ever-changing rules by the State and County, staff and members of the YMCA understand that this reopening may be short-lived.Twice a day, Doug Harrigan would come to the Mission Valley YMCA. But since the COVID-19 quarantine began, he switched to working out at home."It's been rough," Harrigan said. Now he's back."I had a chance to talk to the members that I used to see on a regular basis, and it just felt good to do a real workout in a gym rather than my living room."Starting July 1, 2020, Mission Valley, Dan McKinney (La Jolla), Jackie Robinson (Mt. Hope), Magdalena Ecke (Encinitas), and McGrath Family (Spring Valley) YMCA branches are open, at a modified capacity."Masks required, health check stations, signage everywhere, and we've separated the fitness equipment to the 6-foot social distancing requirements," Assistant Executive Director of the Mission Valley YMCA, Jason Milosh said.At this point, group exercise classes and pools remain closed.Last week, some branches, including Mission Valley, opened up its Kids Day Camps. This year, space is extremely limited due to social distancing rules, and there will not be any field trips. But parents are happy that they are keeping busy."Summer learning loss has been aggravated by the challenges that our school system has had in the last few months of school," Molish said. "So, we have incorporated some more academic components to our summer camps to help kids bridge that summer learning loss."But with the State and County coming out with new rules, seemingly every week, gyms and community centers like the YMCA, must be flexible."Re-closing is a possibility, and we are prepared for that," Milosh said. "We feel good about the precautions that we have taken, but if things worsen and it is determined that we need to close, then we are going to be prepared to do that."But for Harrigan, he hopes it does not come down to that, because with the YMCA, he says he would look and feel much different."It is essential. If I did not work out, I'd probably be 250 pounds," Harrigan laughed. On July 8, 2020, four more San Diego County YMCA branches will open. Those include Cameron Family (Santee), Copely-Price (City Heights), Toby Wells (Kearny Mesa), and the South Bay (Chula Vista) Family branches.Milosh also says he also hopes to reopen the pools for lap swim workouts by next week. For more information about YMCA reopenings, click HERE. 2612

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Federal indictments were unsealed Thursday charging 75 people nationwide, 40 in San Diego, with involvement in an international money-laundering scheme.Prosecutors said those charged have been involved with crimes ranging from drug distribution to money laundering.Investigators seized more than million, 95 kilograms of methamphetamine, 63 kilograms of heroin, 10 kilograms of fentanyl, 92 kilograms of cocaine, 252 kilograms of marijuana, and 20 firearms, including semiautomatic assault rifles and handguns.RELATED: Ex-MLB pitcher Esteban Loaiza now faces federal drug charge"We have siphoned the cash and the life out of a San Diego-based international money laundering organization with ties to the Sinaloa Cartel," U.S. Attorney Adam Braverman said. "By following the money, we have discovered large quantities of fentanyl, heroin and methamphetamine that are no longer destined for the streets of America."According to the indictments, Jose Roberto Lopez-Albarran, described as a "significant" broker for a Mexican-based international money laundering group, laundered tens of millions of dollars in drug money from the U.S. to Mexico between 2015 and 2018.Lopez-Albarran, who was arrested in San Diego on Feb. 9 and remains in custody, reportedly oversaw a network of co-conspirators to assist in transferring the millions to drug suppliers across the border, including individuals working for the Sinaloa Cartel.RELATED: Alleged drug dealer charged in Camp Pendleton Marine's overdose death"Taking on and stopping transnational criminal organizations requires dedication and sacrifice," District Attorney Summer Stephan said. "As a result, this undercover operation has brought down high-level cartel associates and stopped the distribution of dangerous drugs like heroin and fentanyl in San Diego and cities across the U.S."In addition to Lopez-Albarran, another defendant, Manuel Reynoso Garcia, and his co-conspirators were also charged in San Diego last month for money siphoning.  2054
