BEIJING, Dec. 31 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping Thursday urged improving the quality of Party officials at grassroots level.     Xi, who is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks here while meeting with Wang Boxiang, former secretary of a county committee of the CPC, whom Xi described as the model of such officials in the new period.     Wang, born in 1943, has been a local official for more than 30 years and won praises for keeping a just and thrifty working style.     From 1986 to 1991, he was Secretary of the Shouguang County Committee of the CPC in east China's Shandong Province. KUALA LUMPUR, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak met here on Thursday with Liu Qi, member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Secretary of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC.     The two sides exchanged views on the China-Malaysia ties and the relations between the CPC and the United Malays National Organization (UMNO) as well as economic cooperation between the two countries.     Liu said that the relationship between China and Malaysia develops smoothly since the two countries established the diplomatic ties 35 years ago, with increasing mutual trust in politics and remarkable achievements in economic and trade cooperation. BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- China hopes the United States can take active steps to eliminate discriminatory measures towards Chinese poultry products, said Yao Jian, spokesman of China's Ministry of Commerce, on Friday.     Yao made the remarks in a comment on the ministry's official website on the 2010 Agriculture Appropriations Bill, which has modified the stance towards Chinese poultry imports, compared to that in the Omnibus Appropriations Act 2009.     "We welcome the changes," Yao said.     He pointed out, however, there are still restrictions against Chinese poultry products in the new bill.     "China is evaluating whether the restrictions are totally in line with the non-discrimination principle of the World Trade Organization and other relevant regulations," Yao said.     "China's poultry products are safe and reliable... We hope the United States can stand on the footing of maintaining mutual benefit in China-U.S. trade and take active steps to eliminate discriminatory measures and normalize bilateral poultry trade at an early date," Yao said.     Yao hoped that the U.S. could modify relevant regulations to resume poultry imports from China.     The U.S. House of Representatives passed the 410-billion-U.S.-dollar Omnibus Appropriations Act 2009 in February, which said "none of the funds made available in this Actmay be used to establish or implement a rule allowing poultry products to be imported into the United States from the People's Republic of China."

BEIJING, Dec. 12 (Xinhua) -- China should take more forward looking and preemptive measures to fight inflation expectations following this year's credit boom and runaway property prices, said a report released by a leading Chinese bank.     Bank loans should be extended at a more reasonable pace with improved structures next year and policy fine-tuning is necessary, the Bank of Communications has said in a report released by its financial research center.     The government should maintain the continuity and stability of its monetary policy and meanwhile be more targeted and flexible, it said.     The report noted an over brisk equity and property market are always prelude of inflation. Money flow should be regulated to prevent asset bubbles.     It also suggested government increase supply of land resources and affordable housing and crack down on land enclosure to curb skyrocketing property prices which gained the most in 14 months in November.     CPI, the main gauge of inflation, jumped 0.6 percent in November from a year ago, the first monthly growth since January, because of lower statistical bases and rising food prices.     The producer price index (PPI), a major measure of inflation at the wholesale level, declined 2.1 percent in November from a year earlier.     The report expected PPI to end monthly drop in December, and the annual CPI decline to narrow to 0.8 percent.     Hyperinflation is unlikely and CPI is predicted to rise four percent next year, it said.

BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhua) -- World media reports have praised China's efforts in promoting international cooperation to combat climate change and its contribution to a substantive result at the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen.     The per capita carbon emission in China is far lower than that in Western countries, the state media from different countries, including India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Central Africa Republic and Malawi, said recently.     Acknowledging that China was facing a heavy task of development, they said that China's demand for due right to development was justifiable and reasonable.     Alongside economic development, China has increased spending on combating climate change, greatly encouraged science and technology, and become a world leader in the use of green energy, they said.     During the Copenhagen Conference, China made all efforts to communicate and negotiate with other countries. It especially brought together developing nations to jointly safeguard their common interests and made a remarkable contribution to a substantive result of the conference, they said.     Meanwhile, media in small island states, including Antigua and Barbuda, Fiji and Papua New Guinea, also spoke highly of China's responsible attitude and forceful measures on tackling climate change, saying China's effort could match that of any developed countries.     They said that some countries' criticism of China on the issue was groundless and irresponsible.     The words were echoed by France's Le Figaro magazine, which said in an editorial that the environment issue cannot be solved without considering the people's interests and national development.     Being a leader in such technologies as wind power, solar energy and carbon capture, China has also spared no efforts in developing nuclear energy, the magazine said.     Le Figaro in an article titled "In Defense of China," called on the international community to learn more about China.     The article said that China's development has contributed to all mankind because it lifted a great number of Chinese people out of poverty and also benefited neighboring countries and the global economy.     It is groundless to say that China did nothing to improve the environment, the article said, citing China's achievements in developing solar energy and a forestation.     The world should be confident in China's ability to combat climate change, it added.
