The company is calling it the "Speak and Listen" campaign."My grandfather was in the resistance in the Netherlands (in WWII), and I regret not recording his stories," says Story Terrace CEO Rutger Bruining. "That's why I think it's really important for the entire family that these stories are kept and retold, so people remember what happens."The service pairs people up with ghostwriters who spend hours interviewing the subject and then write a book for them. It costs between ,900 and ,450 depending on how long and detailed you want the book to be, and how many pictures you want to include."Ultimately, the content is up to the customer, to change and have it the way they want," says Bruining.Retired Navy Pilot Frank Miley wrote his life story on his own before he knew about Story Terrace. He says putting it in writing was emotional, but also crucial, so his family knows what he went through during the Vietnam War."I didn't do it for glory," Miley says. "I just wanted to let them know that I did my job to keep them safe."Jim Reily, who runs the docent program on the USS Midway, says that first-hand interaction is the best way for people to hear about veterans' contributions to the country."It's gratifying to talk to a bunch of folks who have never been on a ship and explain what happens and see the awe and wonder in their eyes," Reily says. "Our freedom isn't free. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - This election fired up voters and one Serra Mesa couple was driven by duty to vote for the first time.Anthony Joiner and Justine Gibson are engaged, and invested in this election."We recently became home owners and in the next few years we'll be parents hopefully so we feel like the future is in our hands and we want to be part of the decisions that are happening," Joiner said, with Gibson adding, "wanted to make it count."FIND YOUR POLLING PLACEJoiner said it felt great to cast his ballot for the first time, "I feel accomplished."Joiner and Gibson filled their ballots out in person. "We wanted the full experience," they said laughing."This year more than ever we felt the importance of voting and having our voices heard, this was primarily driven by the current political environment! I feel like the presidential race without a doubt is important, however equally as important are the local races/props that will have a direct impact on our quality of life," Gibson said.They didn't make their decisions in isolation, "we filled out our ballots together [at home]," Joiner said. "We’re pretty much on the same page on all things political and whatnot so it was a little bit easier," Gibson chimed in."We didn’t want our votes to cancel one another out so if we disagreed on something we would talk about it a little bit and see why," Joiner said laughing.Joiner said he hopes the tension fades after the election, "and I really want everyone to just get along really."Both hope for a positive outcome, "no matter what way it goes people just accept it," Joiner said. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The suspect in the shooting death of a man near the 24 Hour Fitness in the Midway area is an undocumented immigrant with a prior immigration violation, according to law enforcement sources.San Diego Police arrived at the rear parking lot of the gym at 3675 Midway Drive February 25 to find Alexander Mazin, 27, suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso. He died at the scene.After the shooting, officers surrounded an apartment at 30th St and Upas in North Park. The standoff ended hours later without an arrest.RELATED: Parents of Midway shooting victim describe son's life, violent murderLaw enforcement sources told 10News the suspect, Ernesto Castellanos Martinez, had a prior “voluntary departure” agreement which meant he had been asked to leave the country after an immigration conviction in 2004. He left, but eventually made it back into the U.S.Mazin’s family said Castellanos had previously been in a relationship with Mazin’s girlfriend of three months.Two weeks before the shooting, Castellanos had attacked the woman while she was working out with Mazin at a gym, Mazin’s parents said.RELATED: Police release pictures of Midway District homicide suspectTheir son’s death has galvanized their support for President Donald Trump’s plan to build a wall across the southern border.“I want President Trump to know about this,” Jeffrey Mazin told 10News. “I want him to be aware there was a true patriot, a wonderful human being that was an exemplary citizen that was lost because of this problem with our border.”But framing their son’s death as an immigration problem worries Dulce Garcia, an immigration attorney and an undocumented immigrant herself.She has protection from deportation through Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA). To her, immigration status should be irrelevant in this case.“Someone is going to commit a crime whether they are undocumented here or not,” she argues.Garcia said her reason is that people like herself, who are otherwise law-abiding members of society, are put at higher risk for deportation when they get grouped in with criminal fugitives.“That’s the truly terrifying part for me because I don’t think that’s American. I don’t think we as a nation agree to paint any group based on what one person’s actions did,” said Garcia.Castellanos remains at large.
