SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 70 non-profit groups and organizations teamed up and collected supplies for the thousands of migrants that arrived in Tijuana after leaving Central America.  Many are looking to enter the United States.Enrique Morones, the founder of Border Angels, say dozens of people will meet in San Diego Sat 10:!5 a.m. Saturday. They expect to pack 15 to 20 vehicles with much-needed supplies and bring them to Tijuana.  Morones calls it the ‘Caravan of Love.’Morones says atlas 30 groups will be represented when they make the delivery, which consists of non-perishable food, sleeping bags, toiletries, and more.“Just imagine if your house was on fire and you have to run out, and you have to live in the street, what would you need? It’s those same types of things because these people are escaping a very difficult situation in their home country… so they had to flee, they didn't have a lot of time to take things with them,” Morons said.Morones says doctors from UCLA and UCI will also be joining their Caravan of Love to give health exams to the migrants and families.“We wanna treat these people with kindness and love,” he said. 1172

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Next week, new San Diego Police de-escalation policies will be presented — and likely approved — in response to weeks of demonstrations after George Floyd's death. Danny Murphy is the Deputy Commissioner of Compliance for the Baltimore Police Department, which underwent sweeping reforms following public outrage over the 2015 death of Freddie Gray.“After the Freddie Gray incident, the Department of Justice launched an investigation into the Baltimore Police Department and found a pattern or practice of unconstitutional policing,” Murphy told 10News.RELATED:San Diego Police to implement new de-escalation policyReview board recommends de-escalation reforms to San Diego PoliceThe Baltimore Police Department's new policy requires that the use-of-force not only be reasonable but also necessary and proportional to the situation. Murphy described the techniques for de-escalation. “It's taking more time to let the situation play out [and] see if we can resolve it in a safer manner,” he said and added, “[It’s] using more conversation and communication in advance of the use-of-force.” Murphy also told 10News that the training includes creating distance between the officer and the subject to allow the officer to analyze the situation. The City of San Diego's Community Review Board on Police Practices has been pushing to adopt de-escalation policies that model those of the Baltimore Police Department.RELATED: Local protester seen being taken away by San Diego Police speaks outEarlier in the week, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced new San Diego Police de-escalation policies are on the way but details haven't been released. Also this week, the president of the Police Officers Association said that SDPD's use-of-force policy already includes de-escalation tactics and that it's updated regularly.A spokesperson for the San Diego Police Department said that the department will not be commenting until the mayor's policy plans are released. 1986

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — One San Diego restaurant has been awarded one of the most prestigious accolades given to eateries.Chef William Bradley's restaurant Addison at the Fairmont Grand Del Mar was given one Michelin star in the guide's first California edition. The guide awards between one and three stars to restaurants, meaning either "a very good restaurant in its category" (one star), "excellent cooking, worth a detour" (two stars), or "exceptional cuisine, worth a special journey" (three stars).Addison, a contemporary French restaurant, was San Diego's only restaurant to receive a star and one of 90 to receive at least one star in the California guide.RELATED: Michelin names several San Diego restaurants as 'hidden gems'In a statement to 10News, Bradley said the award is "humbling." "We are honored to be recognized by Michelin during this seminal year in California. Since opening Addison in 2006, we have devoted ourselves to the pursuit of excellence and will continue to find inspiration from that relentless commitment, offering each guest a superlative, personalized dining experience," Bradely, the restaurant's director and executive chef, said. "Michelin’s acknowledgment of our team’s dedication to service and our craft is humbling, and we look forward to championing and aspiring toward the high standards the Guide represents in the year ahead.”Addison isn't the only local restaurant to receive recognition from the Michelin guide. Several restaurants were honored as "Bib Gourmand" establishments — "hidden gems" of San Diego.San Diego's Campfire, Cucina Sorella, Cucina Urbana, El Jardin, Juniper & Ivy, Kettner Exchange, Lola 55, and Solare were hailed for their "high-quality" menus for or less. The eight local restaurants will join 151 other Bib Gourmand picks in California's 2019 edition. The Michelin guide has been published since the early 20th century and is regarded as the oldest restaurant guide. Originally, publishers distributed the guide to provide travelers information on local hotels, restaurants, gas stations, mechanics, and maps.In 2005, Michelin published its first U.S. guide for New York City, covering hundreds of restaurants and hotels throughout the city's boroughs. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - New restrictions going into effect Sunday night limit restaurants, wineries and breweries to take out only, making them brace for the next three weeks. The new stay-at-home orders mandated by Governor Gavin Newsom were triggered due to the rapidly increasing number of hospitalizations from the coronavirus.Mike Hess, Chief Brewing Officer at Mike Hess Brewing, estimated this will be the fifth time his breweries have to shut down across San Diego."I've kinda lost track of the dates and times, I know we're just doing what we need to do to keep going," he said. Each time, he's reinvented the business, making hand sanitizer, selling canned beer to go and adding COVID-19 safety measures in order to reopen."This is tough, it's very hard on a business. It's very hard to manage a business that is reliant on a certain amount of cash flow and business operations," Hess said.Starting Monday they'll shut down again. This time he's transforming some of their outdoor seating at their Imperial Beach location into a drive through lane."People can cruise right in to that orange cone barricade, go right around Elm, right back up Ocean and pick up their tacos and beer right out of the back door which is right where the food comes out of the kitchen anyway so it's going to be piping hot," he said.Hess added the North Park location will also have a drive through option. He hopes they see enough take out customers in the next three weeks, the length the new orders last, to avoid any furloughs this holiday season."We have 80 families that work for Mike Hess Brewing and they're relying on us for a paycheck so the shut down is having a big effect," he said.Hess is frustrated the new restrictions target the restaurant industry when retail is allowed to open in a limited capacity. He is still holding a "Joy Drive" for the Jesse Rees Foundation, donating 25% of gift card sales through December 21st. 1927
