INDIANAPOLIS — Nearly 400 guns were seized from an Indianapolis gun store as part of a months-long federal investigation. United States Attorney Josh Minkler said the seizures happened on Tuesday from G2 Sports Products. The investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives found evidence that G2 Sports "knowingly transferred handguns to an out-of-state resident, made false entries in records, failed to report multiple sales of handguns and knowingly transferred firearms to a prohibited person."The business agreed to an enhanced surrender of its federal license, according to the US Attorney's Office, which means none of the owners will be eligible to reapply for their license or deal in firearms again. The owners allowed ATF to seize the approximately 390 firearms, silencers and receivers which included rifles, shotguns and handguns with a total estimated value of 4,000. The seizure follows the indictment of Scott Genung for being a "prohibited person in possession of a firearm." 1032

Kroger is tapping Microsoft to help create grocery stores of the future, and keep up with Amazon and Walmart. The two companies announced a partnership on Monday that will bring digital shelves, price tags, and advertisements to two pilot stores in Ohio and Washington State, near each company's headquarters. The stores are designed to make it easier for customers and workers to navigate the stores, saving shoppers time and Kroger money.Kroger has been partnering with companies such as Nuro, Ocado, and Walgreens as it aims to speed up grocery delivery and pickup, and experiment with digital tools to support its network of physical stores. The grocery chain is trying to give shoppers — who are increasingly browsing and buying everything from consumer electronics to breakfast cereal online — more reasons to visit physical stores.Under the latest partnership, customers first build a shopping list using Kroger's Scan, Bag, Go self-checkout app. Then, the app works with cloud-based software and sensors in the store to guide them around as they check off items on their list. For example, if a customer is looking for pasta, the app will direct the customer to the correct aisle. As the customer nears the aisle and approaches the type of pasta they chose, a personal avatar — like a banana or an avocado —will light up that directs them to the right one. They'll scan the item to check out, and the system will route the customer to the next item on their list."The notion of Kroger having to figure out what digital looks like in store for a grocery shopper is super important," said Jason Goldberg, head of the commerce practice at digital agency SapientRazorfish. He believes the tech could appeal to customers who want more information about the food they're buying, where it comes from, and how to store it in their homes.Shelves at the two tech-enhanced stores will also look much different than traditional stores.Instead of paper tags for prices and promotions, they will be digital. That creates room for Kroger to sell advertising space to brands, which could provide a new profit stream in the low-margin grocery business.Switching will help Kroger quickly change prices on products and create deals, instead of an employee manually making the changes. Kroger said it will boost workers' productivity, since employees will be able to quickly locate products for customers' curbside grocery pickup orders.Kroger's ( 2443

If you listen closely, you can hear the buzz happening at Doull Elementary School in Denver, Colorado. At this school, where 93 percent of the students qualify for free lunch, staff is helping out by getting more hands-on. Every Wednesday, after the final bell rings, the school’s auditorium transforms into a barbershop.“This really does help out some of our families,” Doull Assistant Principal Rob Suglia said about the school’s new barber club. “We found that attendance is better, because when kids feel good, they want to come to school.” Before getting his doctorate in education, Suglia worked as a professional barber. Now, he’s sharing his skills to his students.“Third, 4th and 5th graders get to get exposed to a trade,” Suglia said about the benefits of the barber club. It's a growing trade that can be financially rewarding. According to The United States Department, the median hourly wage for barbers was about .50 in 2018. When you add in tips, many say barbers can make a lot more, like professional barber Buschey, who works at Floyd’s barbershop in downtown Denver. “No matter where I go around the world, all I need is clippers and a comb and I should be able to get an income,” he says. Though Bushey has made a career out of cutting hair, he believes barbering provides much more than just a paycheck.“It gives me a sense of accomplishment,” he says. “I’ve had people sit in my chair that maybe just lost a loved one. (I) give them a good haircut and all of a sudden to see their face uplifts like they’re ready to step out in the world.” It’s that combination of intimacy and innovation that makes Doull 5th-grader Kevin Sanchez want to become barber.“When I’m cutting hair, I like it and I want to keep doing it,” Sanchez says. Now, he’s learning the art of cutting hair, practicing his craft by giving his close friends tight fades after school on Wednesdays.“It’s a creative job; you get to put design in people’s hair,” Sanchez says. “I might just move out to California and cut people’s hair.”But before heading out west, getting licensed and making money – Sanchez must get through middle school. 2141
