SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Three people have been arrested after a man was found dead in a drainage ditch near Fox Canyon in February. According to San Diego Police, Steven Chavez, 32, Peter Burgos, 45, and Jesus Faraj, 41, were all arrested from September 11 through the 17 on charges related to the murder. Police say Faraj was already in prison for an unrelated charges. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The Secretary of the Interior stated in no uncertain terms in a letter sent to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors Thursday federal law supersedes state law. This was in reference to an ordinance the San Diego County Board of Supervisors passed in November banning recreational shooting, saying it was unconstitutional.Currently the law states you can shoot at targets on BLM land, "as long as it is done in a safe manner, without damaging natural resources or improvements on public lands." There is a section that states you may not fire any plastic pellets, exploding, tracer or steel core rounds. This is to prevent wildfires.RELATED: San Diego County Board of Supervisors approves recreational shooting ban near DulzuraCounty Supervisor Diane Jacob said the goal of the ordinance was also to prevent wildfires, coming after the Gate Fire in May of 2017, sparked near an area known for target practice."She immediately blamed the fire on the shooting and she had no evidence," Executive Director of San Diego Gun Owners PAC Michael Schwartz said. He also said the board never spoke to the federal government."When he [the Secretary of the Interior] found out the entire department said no this isn’t something we’re going to stand by at all," Schwartz said. The Secretary of the Interior sent a statement to the Board of Supervisors Thursday citing the Supremacy clause in the Constitution and, "law enforcement personnel have no authority to enforce unconstitutional pronouncements of law."RELATED: After Gate Fire, recreational shooting ban hits public landsJacob fired back with this statement: "The BLM decision is unfortunate and frustrating because this area is highly prone to wildfire, and we've already learned the hard way that shooting at this spot poses a significant risk to life and property. "The gun owners consider this a huge win, it shows what activism can do and when people band together and get involved we can stop unconstitutional regulations by elected officials abusing their power," he said, adding he hopes to see the ordinance removed from the books. 2485

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The Port of San Diego is kicking off another season of Waterfront Summer service.The service, which is now in its seventh season, provides transportation along the waterfront for per day.The shuttle, provided by the Port, will connect visitors and residents to businesses and attractions along the waterfront.According to the Port, the shuttle runs on a loop every 20 minutes from the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina on Harbor Island to Harbor Drive Bridge with several stops in between.The shuttle will run every day from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. during the summer season. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — The San Diego Police Departments K9 officers and their handlers were honored at the unveiling of the new K9 Memorial Dedication Ceremony Wednesday afternoon. They don’t carry weapons. Often times, they are the weapon.“We’ve had several dogs injured, stabbed, and shot,” Lt. Tony Lessa of the San Diego Police K9 Unit said. “Fortunately, only one was killed in the line of duty.”Since 1984, ninety-two San Diego Police K9’s have served alongside their handlers. They enter themselves into dangerous situations for the good of the community. Many said their value is immeasurable. “They improve officer safety for out officers in a way that they reduce the use of force we have to use,” Lt. Lessa said. “You can’t put a number on that.”That is why a new Memorial wall was built for the specialized unit. Sitting at the helm is a bronze statue of German Shepard Bando, who was struck by a car and killed in the line of duty in 1994. Underneath his statue are the names of several K9’s and their handlers.Patsy Samson was the main donor for the San Diego Police Foundation. She worked with the organization for eight months until finally unveiling the memorial today.“They love their K9’s,” Samson said. “They take care of their K9’s. They just want to do the best you can do for the community that they protect and serve, every single day.”Whether it’s their cuteness on their time off, or their fierce abilities to bring down criminals, the K9’s officers have a special place in hearts. But the best times to view the shower will be overnight Aug. 12.One of the only things standing in your way is light pollution.
