Just days after the mass shooting at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas, a makeshift memorial with flowers and stuffed animals continues to grow.But that’s not the only sign of support arriving in this small town east of San Antonio.Mary Beth Fisk is the CEO of a San Antonio-based counseling and education non-profit called The Ecumenical Center. She and her team have been on the ground since Sunday night to provide counseling to victims and family member, particularly children.“Everybody’s grief journey is unique to them,” Fisk said. “It’s important to have someone who’s trained to walk through this complicated grief process with these families.”Fisk was nearby near the makeshift memorial on Tuesday, around for anyone who may need to talk.While Fisk spends time next to the flowers at the corner outside the church, across the street on another corner Donna Watkins was setting up a table of stuffed animals she brought with her from her home in Corpus Christi.Watkins is with the Homicide Survivors Support Group. She says she lost her brother decades ago and that gives her a unique perspective from which to assist.“It’s the most traumatic, worst thing that a family can ever go through. (CNS) - Firefighters labored for a sixth day Thursday to subdue a wildfire that has blackened thousands of acres in rural eastern San Diego County, leveling at least 30 homes and dozens of outbuildings and forcing widespread evacuations.As of midday Thursday, crews had the sprawling burn area southeast of Alpine nearly one-third contained, according to Cal Fire. The personnel remained particularly focused on its western and northern flanks, where smoldering hot spots were posing the most immediate remaining structural threats, the state agency reported.At last count, the conflagration, dubbed the Valley Fire, had destroyed 30 residences and 29 auxiliary structures and left two firefighters with minor injuries.The blaze erupted for unknown reasons early Saturday afternoon off Spirit Trail and Carveacre Road in Japatul Valley and spread rapidly through tinder-dry vegetation amid sweltering heat and high winds, according to Cal Fire. More than 1,000 local, state, federal and military firefighters battled the blaze by ground and aboard firefighting aircraft, officials said.As of late Thursday, crews had the perimeter of the wind-driven inferno 35% surrounded by fire breaks, the state agency reported. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — It's the happiest a Kansas City widower said he has been in three years."That's when our whole journey started," said Jim Purcell, who lost his 29-year-old wife Christy last year.Christy was diagnosed with brain cancer two months after their son, Jameson, was born.Scripps station KSHB in Kansas City reported earlier in April that Purcell's wedding rings had been stolen."It’s been a brutal journey. Every day was hard. When that ring was stolen, it was just another stab to the heart," said Purcell.Purcell shared the story on social media, explaining it was a devastating loss for him and his son."This was the one legacy item I wanted to pass on to him," said Purcell.Purcell's wallet was also stolen. The thieves used his credit card at the Walmart at 133rd and State Line; its surveillance video captured the alleged thieves’ faces.KCPD shared those images and together enough tips were gathered that detectives found the rings at a jewelry store in Raymore."They were honestly shocked," said Purcell.KCPD property crimes said it’s best to carefully photograph and document your items as extra insurance. Things like that can help them when trying to locate items.  "The police never gave up," explained Purcell, who said he was incredibly grateful people stepped forward with information.
