SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A former San Diego State University student accused of setting a string of fires around the campus over the course of three days was charged with a dozen felony counts Wednesday, including burglary, arson and vandalism. Madelyn Delarosa, 19, was taken into custody Saturday morning, following four fires she's suspected of setting to apartments and vehicles across campus between March 13-16. No injuries were reported in connection with the fires, all of which occurred a few blocks south of Viejas Arena. However, Deputy District Attorney Rikole Santin noted that one of the fires was ignited in an occupied apartment, inside which a person was sleeping. Santin said the heat from the flames caused a window to shatter and ``rain glass and fire'' upon the victim, who was asleep just below the window. A suspected motive for the spree was unknown, as was the reason Delarosa was no longer a student at the campus. The San Diego County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to distribute million of Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act funding to eligible childcare providers in San Diego County."The childcare sector is very important, as our economy cannot be sustainable if parents do not have safe places for their children to be cared for and educated while they are working," said Supervisor Nathan Fletcher, co- chair of the county's COVID-19 subcommittee. "This new million grant program will help childcare providers make their centers safe during the coronavirus pandemic and allow them to remain open so parents can return to work."Funding will be allocated based on predetermined categories outlined in the CARES Act agreement. Large family childcare providers -- licensed to care for a maximum of 14 children -- will be eligible to receive up to ,500 and small family childcare providers -- licensed to care for a maximum of eight children -- will be eligible for up to ,750. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 58-year-old man was killed this morning when his SUV crashed into a tree in Mira Mesa and he was thrown from the vehicle.The man was driving his white Cadillac SUV westbound in the No. 2 lane of Mira Mesa Boulevard at 1:10 a.m. After passing through the intersection at Camino Ruiz, he made an unsafe movement to the left, causing the SUV to jump the center island and strike a large pine tree, ejecting the driver, who died at the scene, according to Officer Robert Heims of the San Diego Police Department.It was unknown whether alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash, Heims said.The name of the victim was not disclosed. 655
