BEIJING, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Chinese State Councilor Ma Kai said Tuesday that China was willing to enhance energy dialogue and cooperation with other nations.China attaches great importance to energy-saving and environmental protection while striving to achieve a comprehensive, coordinated and sustainable development of energy, Ma said during a meeting with some participants of the 2010 China International Energy Forum in Beijing.The participants included Pierre Gadonneix, chairman of the World Energy Council, and Randall Gossen, president of the World Petroleum Council.Ma said China's energy consumption mainly depended on domestic supply. Meanwhile the country was an active participant in international energy cooperation.Gadonneix said the forum would pay more attention to the issue of energy development and environmental protection, enhance diversity and inclusiveness of the event, and contribute to the world's sustainable development.

BEIJING, Sept. 27 (Xinhua) -- Top Chinese legislator Wu Bangguo met here Monday with President of the National Assembly of Mali Dioncounda Traore and the two sides pledged to enhance parliamentary exchanges.Wu, chairman of China's National People's Congress Standing Committee, welcomed his counterpart at the Great Hall of People in Beijing.Wu said Mali was one of the first countries in Sub-Saharan Africa to establish diplomatic ties with China and bilateral relations between the two countries have endured various tests over the years.The sustainable development of bilateral ties has its basis in political mutual respect and mutual economic benefit, Wu said.He said Chinese President Hu Jintao's successful visit to Mali last year pushed bilateral relations to a new high.This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.Expressing hope to work with Mali to deepen friendship and expand cooperation, Wu said China's National People's Congress attaches great importance to exchanges with the Malian National Assembly.Traore said Mali and China have traditional friendship and Mali admires China's national solidarity, social harmony and rapid economic growth.Mali will further develop bilateral ties between the two countries and their parliaments, Traore said.He reiterated Mali's strict observance of the one-China policy. ISTANBUL, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's four-nation Eurasian tour has scored marked achievements and further deepened China-Europe cooperation, said Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi, who described the visit as "a great complete success."Wen paid official visits to Greece, Belgium, Italy and Turkey and attended the 8th Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) and the 13th China-EU summit in the eight days from Oct. 2-9.Yang said Premier Wen's visit is aimed at boosting mutual trust through dialogues and promoting common development through cooperation.During his eight-day visit, Wen took part in more than 70 meetings, events and activities and paid a brief visit to Berlin as a guest of German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the midst of his stay in Brussels.In addition to talking with leaders of the four countries and the European Union (EU), Wen also met with people from the local cultural, industrial and business circles and held joint press conferences or issued joint statements together with the leaders of the countries.Premier Wen vividly presented China's policies and positions, trying different angles, Yang said, which had further improved bilateral relations between China and the four countries and deepened China-Europe ties in the new historic period.

BEIJING, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- China on Wednesday handed out the first group of Internet map service licenses to 31 Chinese and joint-venture operators, after authorities tightened market access amid worries that booming Internet map services might undermine state security.The 31 operators, including a national-level map publisher, several map service providers affiliated with major Chinese portals such as Baidu.com and Sina.com, and nearly a dozen state-owned local research institute or mapping bureaus, obtained a class-A license from the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping.Operators who obtain a class-A license will be allowed to conduct services including map searching and locations, marking geographic information, downloading and copying of maps, and map transmissions and quotations. Class-B licenses will restrict companies to offer services of map searching and locations, as well as geographic information marking.All Internet map services providers will have to apply for a license, while those operating without the license will be prosecuted in China in accordance with the law, said an official from the State Bureau of Surveying and Mapping, who required anonymity.The official did not elaborate on the deadline for license applications.Foreign-owned or foreign-invested Internet firms can apply for the license in the capacity of joint ventures or through cooperation with Chinese businesses, according to the official.Nokia Alliance Internet Services Company Limited, a joint venture between Nokia and New Alliance, which is part of the Shanghai Alliance Investment Limited, is among the businesses that have obtained a class-A license.
