SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Thousands of people visited Seaport Village Saturday to watch outdoor entertainers at the 14th Annual Busker Fest 2020. As the fear of coronavirus spreads, attendees of the festival seemed unbothered by it.Gather around! Let your eyes and ears feast on the marvels of jugglers, daredevils, and aerialists."Buskers have always been a big part of our history down at Seaport Village," Scott Andrews, Marketing Director of Seaport Village, said. Coming to the festival has become a seven-year tradition for Shannon Steward and her nine-year-old son, Aiden. "I like supporting the street performers!" Stewart said. "I never even knew what a busker was until I found out about this festival."New this year: Busker University. It's a special place where kids can learn about art and busking skills. One of the most popular booths is the slime station. Children can make slime by mixing Borax, water, and glue. After playing at the slime station, the kids are encouraged to wash their hands by using either baby wipes or hand sanitizer.Ahead of the event, San Diego Port Authority added hand-washing stations all along the Embarcadero, to quell growing fears of the coronavirus. Regardless, Stewart said good hygiene is something she always preaches to her family. "We are making sure we are washing our hands, not touching too many things, but obviously, we are kind of diving into the slime and no big deal!" Stewart said. She said she is not going to let fear and hysteria ruin their fun."It's at the forefront of our minds, but it's not changing too much of what we are doing right now," Stewart said. "Now, that may change in a couple of weeks. But for right now, we are living in the moment, enjoying the things that we've always done, and the tradition at the busker festival."The Busker Fest continues Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. at Seaport Village. 1877

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - The sailor hit by a spinning helicopter blade earlier this week at MCAS Camp Pendleton has died.MCAS Camp Pendleton said the sailor died Saturday morning from injuries sustained after the spinning tail rotor blade of a UH-01Y Venom Marine helicopter struck him.The helicopter was on deck at MCAS Camp Pendleton when the incident occurred just after 6 p.m. Wednesday.RELATED: Sailor critically injured by spinning helicopter blade at MCAS Camp PendletonThe sailor was brought to Scripps La Jolla Medical Facility with critical injuries after the incident.Officials are withholding the sailor's name pending family notification. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - There is a memorial of candles, notes, and flowers along 4th Avenue near Main Street in Chula Vista.They are in memory of 23-year-old Christina Garcia, who was found dead at a nearby field on Aug. 5th. Chula Vista police say they were called out to 3100 block of Main Street after someone found her body. They say she had an apparent gunshot wound and opened a homicide case.“That afternoon, she wanted to see her daughter and pick up the truck, so it was a brief encounter,” her mother, Lisa Garcia, said. “I expected her to come back, and I wish I took advantage of that situation longer.”Lisa says Christina leaves behind a two-year-old daughter.“I think the saddest thing for me is that her daughter is only going to know her through pictures because she’s so young,” She said. “She’s never going to remember her mom’s touch, her kiss, her voice.”Lisa says her daughter was very likable and smart.“She tested out in the 10th grade and started southwestern college and finished her classes there,” Lisa said. She was also a skilled welder and liked working with her hands. Most recently, they bought a home and worked on remodeling it.“She’s very hands-on, like her mom,” Lisa said, “you know, taking the popcorn ceiling down, remodeling the walls.”She says it’s been tough knowing Christina’s killer has not been caught. Lisa says she has many questions and is cannot find any closure without finding answers.“Was she dumped there? Was she shot there? So my brain is at 100 miles per hour trying to come up with all these scenarios,” she said.Police are asking for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward, saying they can even remain anonymous through Crime Stoppers.“There might be information out there that people think is irrelevant,” Lisa said. “But it could be very relevant to law enforcement.” 1845

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- The weather has recently taken a turn for sunny and warm, making for the perfect day at the beach. But lifeguards are warning people expected to flock to the shores of San Diego about stingrays. “The stingrays are out in full force,” lifeguards said in a Facebook post. According to lifeguards, the California round ray feeds in the shallows off the California coast. RELATED: Today's full forecastThe creatures lay partially buried in the sand while hunting, causing problems for unknowing beachgoers. “Stingrays have a sheathed barb in their tail that is used when stepped on or when threatened,” the post continued.
