(AP) -- California Gov. Gavin Newsom says the state will halt sales of new gasoline-powered passenger cars and trucks by 2035.On Wednesday, he ordered state regulators to come up with requirements to meet that goal. California would be the first state with such a rule, though Germany and France are among 15 other countries that have a similar requirement.Newsom's plan would not ban people from owning gas-powered cars or selling them on the used car market, but it would end the sales of all new gasoline-powered passenger cars and trucks in the state.California already has rules mandating a certain percentage of new car sales be electric or zero-emission vehicles. 678

"Hello Duncan Middle School Parents, this is Principal Philip D'Amico. A question on a quiz given by your child's Computer Applications teacher yesterday was brought to my attention this morning. The question was inappropriate and demonstrated an unacceptable lack of good judgment on the part of the teacher. An investigation is now underway, and the teacher has been reassigned during this process. Because this is an open inquiry, I am not at liberty to share any additional details with you at this point. I apologize for this incident, and for the offensive verbiage used in the question. Thank you for your patience, and your continued support of Watson B. Duncan Middle School." 693

EL CENTRO, Calif. (KGTV) - A man who sought treatment from Imperial Valley Ministries says the church felt more like "a cult." The man, who asked not to be identified, said church staff took his identification and welfare benefits and pressured other participants to panhandle for hours, echoing allegations in a newly unsealed federal indictment. Federal prosecutors have accused a dozen church leaders with luring vulnerable people with the promise of shelter and meals and forcing them to work.RELATED: DOJ: Church leaders held homeless against will in San Diego and other cities The man said he and his wife were homeless in 2015 when they came across a church recruiter outside a Tucson Walgreens. He said they entered the IVM program to receive substance abuse treatment but quickly became disturbed by what they saw. In an indictment unsealed Tuesday, federal prosecutors charged a dozen church leaders with conspiracy, forced labor, document servitude and benefits fraud. Prosecutors said the church officials, including former Pastor Victor Gonzalez, compelled mostly homeless people to panhandle up to nine hours a day, six days a week, for the financial benefit of the church leaders. The indictment also accuses the church leaders of holding participants in locked group homes against their will and coercing them to surrender welfare benefits. “These victims were held captive, stripped of their humble financial means, their identification, their freedom and their dignity," said U.S. Attorney Robert Brewer in a statement Tuesday. The man said he and his wife spent about five days at the El Centro facility. Church staff only agreed to let them leave when they threatened to call 911, he said."They did a lot of bad things to all these good people. It's not right," he said. 1799

"A storm's a comin', baby."That's what the actual Stormy Daniels said to Alec Baldwin's President Donald Trump on this week's edition of "Saturday Night Live." The actress appeared in the cold open alongside many other big names that surround Trump. One such name was Trump's lawyer, Michael Cohen, played by Ben Stiller."What's up, amigo? How are you holding up in prison?" Baldwin's Trump said to Stiller's Cohen over the phone."I'm not in prison," said Stiller's Cohen, who called Baldwin's Trump from a pay phone."Oh well, give it a couple of weeks," the faux president responded.Baldwin's Trump then said to call another one of his lawyers, Rudy Giuliani, played by Kate McKinnon, saying that he has "the sharpest mind since 'My Cousin Vinny.'"However, Cohen accidentally phoned Trump's former personal doctor, Harold Bornstein, played by Martin Short."This is Harold Bornstein. Would you like to know any of patient's medical history?" Short as Bornstein asked before Stiller's Cohen called Giuliani, who was appearing on Fox News during the call.Giuliani, who said he had other TV appearances lined up to give away secret information, was then looped by Cohen. But without his knowledge, FBI agents were also listening in on the phone call.Trump and Cohen then connected others like Aidy Bryant's Sarah Sanders, Beck Bennett's Mike Pence, Cecily Strong's Melania Trump, Leslie Jones' Omarosa Manigault and Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, who were played by Scarlett Johansson and Jimmy Fallon. Then Daniels got brought into the party line of calls as well."What do you need for all of this to go away?" Baldwin's Trump asked Daniels."A resignation," she responded to cheers from the audience.Daniels and Baldwin's Trump then opened the NBC variety show with its catch phrase, "Live from New York ... It's Saturday night!" 1834

"Lemonade stand! Snack bar!" they shout loudly. At the corner of Peabody Drive and Hardy Cash Drive in Hampton, Virginia you'll find a group of determined kids."We are raising money for single mothers that are struggling. They have to do so much on their own," said 11-year-old Cartier Carey.Cartier is the leader of the "Carti Pack" and CEO of his lemonade stand, one unlike any other."We sell lemonade, chips, candy - all types of stuff that people want, and it's not expensive," he said. Each dollar spent towards a cup of the summertime drink and goodies on the side goes towards buying diapers for local families in need."The diapers are for mothers or anyone that has babies," Cartier said. It's an unusual business model, but one that's working."There's a shortage of Pampers and wipes in the stores because of the pandemic, so this couldn't have come at a better time," said Anthony Carey, Cartier's dad.A rising sixth-grader like Cartier and his friends could be out playing sports or riding bikes, but instead, they're helping single mothers in the community."There are a lot of grown-ups out there not doing what we're doing," Cartier said."As a parent, it makes me feel spectacular," Anthony said. This lemonade stand isn't a first for Cartier. He started the non-profit Kids 4 Change 757 about a year ago."Not only are they helping older adults, but [they're also] helping children see they can make a change inside of their community," Anthony said.So far this week, Cartier and his friends have raised ,200, most of which is going to buy the diapers."I'm shocked," Cartier said.Cartier and his friends will be out in Hampton at the corner of Peabody Drive and Hardy Cash Drive through Friday.WTKR's Chelsea Donovan first reported this story. 1763
