WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. Navy has fired two senior commanders in the Pacific region in connection with recent deadly collisions of Navy ships, as part of a sweeping purge of leadership in the Japan-based fleet.The announcement comes a day before the top U.S. Navy officer and the Navy secretary are scheduled to go to Capitol Hill for a hearing on the ship crashes.The USS John S. McCain and an oil tanker collided in Southeast Asia last month, leaving 10 U.S. sailors dead and five injured. And seven sailors died in June when the USS Fitzgerald and a container ship collided in waters off Japan. WAVELAND, Miss. — Storm-weary Gulf Coast residents are preparing for a new weather onslaught as Tropical Storm Sally churns northward. Forecasters from the National Hurricane Center in Miami said Sally is expected to become a hurricane on Monday and reach shore by early Tuesday, bringing dangerous weather conditions including risk of flooding to a region stretching from the western Florida Panhandle to southeast Louisiana. Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards urged people to prepare for the storm immediately. He also said there are still many from southwestern Louisiana who evacuated from Hurricane Laura into New Orleans — exactly the area that could be hit by Sally.As the Gulf Coast braced for Sally, Bermuda was hunkered down and riding out the effects of Hurricane Paulette. That storm — with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph as of 4 a.m. ET — was hovering above the Atlantic island nation as of Monday morning. The storm is expected to impact Bermuda throughout the day on Monday before moving west on Tuesday.Also on Monday, Tropical Storm Teddy formed in the eastern Atlantic Ocean. According to National Hurricane Center forecasts, it's not expected to make landfall until next week if it doesn't dissipate by then.Teddy marks the 19th named storm of 2020. WASHINGTON, D.C. – President Donald Trump is continuing his futile appeal to battleground state lawmakers to subvert the votes of their constituents.The president has reached out twice to Pennsylvania House Speaker Bryan Cutler, a Republican, to see what might be possible for Trump to do about the state's presidential vote.A person briefed on the matter told The Associated Press that Trump pressed for the state’s legislature to replace the electors for President-elect Joe Biden with those loyal to Trump. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.Cutler’s spokesperson, Mike Straub, says Trump did not pressure Cutler to take any sort of action and that the call was informational.Cutler and other top Republican lawmakers have said that, legally, the state legislature has no legal power to override the will of the voters and select a slate of presidential electors.Biden won Pennsylvania by more than 80,000 votes and the state has already certified its election. Nearly every other state has certified as well and Biden has secured more than the 270 Electoral College votes needed to take the White House.The Trump campaign has filed a series of lawsuits in several swing states, claiming widespread voter fraud without substantial proof. WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- A group of South Florida strip clubs will give away 3,000 turkeys to needy families for Thanksgiving.Rodriguez Charities will be giving away 1,000 turkeys at three different locations on Monday, Nov. 20 at 11 a.m.The turkeys are intended for families in need, are limited to one turkey per household, and will be distributed on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last on Nov. 20 at each of the three locations.The free Thanksgiving turkey giveaway started with just 100 turkeys at just one location in 2014. Over the last three years the number of free turkeys distributed has increased to 1,000 each year. This year Rodriguez Charities is tripling the amount of free turkeys that will be given away, totaling 3,000 birds between the three locations.According to a news release, the organization says actor Angel "Chi Chi" Salazar, who has appeared in movies like "Scarface" and "Carlito's Way", is scheduled to appear at the turkey giveaway, along with "former NFL greats".Over the last 11 years, Rodriguez Charities has donated more than .5 million to various charitable organizations and needy individuals throughout South Florida. 1191
