A dentist in New York says she's been seeing patients more than ever since the coronavirus pandemic began. A giant blimp of London Mayor Sadiq Khan will be seen in the UK capital's skies this weekend after protesters were given permission to fly the crowdfunded balloon in Westminster.More than 3,000 supporters have donated more than ￡58,000 (,500) in total to fund the 29-foot balloon, which depicts the mayor reclining in a small yellow bikini.Protest organizer Yanny Bruere, who describes himself as a British free speech advocate, said he had set up the crowdfunding campaign in response to London authorities' decision to allow a "Trump Baby" blimp to be flown during last month's visit to Britain by US President Donald Trump.He said the Parliament Square event on Saturday morning "marks the fightback for free speech in our country."Bruere, who has set up a "Make London Safe Again" group on Facebook, accuses Khan of doing too little to prevent violent crime in London.The Crowdfunder page posted by Bruere said: "In light of the Donald Trump 'Baby Trump' ballon being allowed to fly over London during his visit to the U.K., let's get a 'baby Khan' one and see if FREE SPEECH applies to all and whether or not Mr Khan and the London assembly will also approve this."Under Sadiq Khan, we have seen crime sky rocket to unprecedented levels. A doctor is opening up about working at one of the first hospitals in the country dedicated solely to treating people with severe cases of COVID-19.“Hope gave way to frustration as heartwarming images of mutual sacrifice were replaced by images of protest about the sanctity of dining out and getting haircuts,” said Dr. Ben Trappey at Bethesda Hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. “Now, even frustration has given way to bone deep sense of weariness and resignation. I’m running on fumes.”Trappey spent nearly three months away from his wife, quarantining at a hotel while caring for patients at Bethesda Hospital near Minneapolis.He destresses through reflective writing and teaches it to other residents and physicians.His essay “Running on Fumes” was recently published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA). It reflects how he feels still being on the front lines of COVID-19, but not feeling like the rest of the world is behind him.“The thing that made me feel most supported early on was just that everybody was making these sacrifices together and now when there are so many people who refuse to acknowledge that a sacrifice even needs to be made is really frustrating,” said Trappey.He says one of his challenges is not knowing which COVID-19 patients will get better.Many hospitals have provided support like counseling and buddy systems.Trappey is now on parental leave at home with his wife and newborn son.“It’s hard to think about what things will be like as we get further into the fall and we have other respiratory viruses in place as well. A bus carrying Houston-area band students fell into a 50-foot ravine in Baldwin County, Alabama, early Tuesday morning, killing the driver, police said.The crash and rescue effort closed down Interstate 10 in both directions near the Florida state line.The bus struck a bridge support when it landed in the ravine, and inspectors need to make sure the bridge is sound before reopening the interstate, he said.A wrecker was pulling the bus out of the gulley as Alabama State Trooper Capt. John Malone spoke to reporters."The bus came to rest on one side down in the ravine. Those had to either be brought up by ropes or rappelling individuals from the fire department during the rescue operation. Some were carried out by either deputies or other law enforcement," Baldwin County Sheriff Huey Hoss Mack said, explaining that the depth of the ravine complicated rescue efforts.First Class Tours, which operated the bus, identified the driver as Harry Caligone, a longtime employee of the company"We are deeply saddened for this loss. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family," the bus company said.Mack said several injured people were taken to 10 hospitals in Baldwin County, the Alabama cities of Mobile, Daphne and Fairhope, and Pensacola, Florida. A man lambasted as the “dine-and-dash dater” after being accused of meeting women at restaurants across the Los Angeles area only to leave them with the bill pleaded not guilty to charges of theft and extortion on Monday, prosecutors said.Paul Guadalupe Gonzales, 45, allegedly connected with a string of women through dating apps and websites and invited them out to dinner between May 2016 and this April with the intent of using them as a meal ticket, the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release.He arranged dates at restaurants in Pasadena, Long Beach, Burbank and Los Angeles, where he ordered and consumed food and drinks, then disappeared before the bill had been paid, the DA’s office said.Eight women told prosecutors they’d footed the bill, one of them under the belief that Gonzales would pay her back. And at least twice, the restaurant paid its own check — making those businesses victims in the criminal complaint, officials said.In total, Gonzales is accused of defrauding the women of more than 0.He’s also charged with receiving hair salon services, then leaving before paying.Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Gonzales on July 3, and inmate records show he was taken into custody Saturday, Aug. 25, in Pasadena.He was subsequently charged with seven counts of extortion, two counts of attempted extortion and one count of grand theft — all felonies.
