(KGTV) ¡ª Two people killed in a Christmas Eve. crash on State Route 78 in Ramona have been identified by San Diego's medical examiner.Christian Diaz, a minor, and Gonzalo Rodriguez, 44, died Monday in collided head-on collision on SR-78 near W. Haverford Road just after 11 a.m., according to California Highway Patrol.The county medical examiner said Rodriguez was driving westbound on SR-78 when he lost control of the Toyota Camry he was driving and crossed into the oncoming lane, colliding with the truck. Their conditions were not immediately known Tuesday.Investigators said both boys in the back of the Camry were wearing seat belts but not shoulder straps, which may have contributed to Diaz's death. 1095

A 64-year-old Painesville Township, Ohio resident was hailed as a hero after authorities say he stopped a man who chased a mother and her two children from their home after he allegedly broke in.Police said the resident, Thomas Jones, opened his door after he heard his neighbor pounding on it and yelling for help.According to authorities, Jones' neighbor and her two children had just run from their house after a 30-year-old man allegedly forced his way into their home through the back door. The suspect chased the woman into her bedroom and then laid down on the floor claiming someone was trying to kill him, police said.The woman was able to escape the bedroom and run from the residence with her 5 and 7-year-old children and call 911.Listen to the 911 call below. Warning: The call contains graphic language.A short time later, the suspect came across the street and onto the porch in an attempt to gain entry to the house where the woman and her children took shelter.Jones and the suspect fought until deputies arrived, at which time the 30-year-old was taken into custody.The suspect was identified as Bobby Collier, of East Jackson Street, Painesville.Police said Collier had an active warrant out for a parole violation. It also appeared that he was under the influence of an unknown drug.Collier was charged with aggravated burglary, burglary, assault, criminal damaging, and aggravated trespass.Jones later told the sheriff's department, he "only did what anyone would do."The sheriff's department said they "commend Thomas Jones for his selfless act and thank him for his outstanding efforts." 1643

(KGTV) ¡ª The number of troops stationed at the U.S.-Mexico border will decrease from 5,600 to about 4,000 troops and their deployment will be extended into January, according to the Associated Press.The AP, citing U.S. officials speaking on the condition of anonymity, said a formal request submitted by the Department of Homeland Security Friday requested the additional support. The request has yet to be approved by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, though military officials have been working with DHS to help develop the request, the AP reports.Troops were deployed by President Donald Trump in response to a migrant caravan from Central America. Of the 5,600 troops at the U.S. border, about 1,800 are currently in California.RELATED: Additional troops being sent to California border after migrants rush San Ysidro port of entryEarlier this week, the Department of Defense approved moving 300 troops, made up of mostly military police and engineers, from Texas and Arizona to the California border. A 12-year old Brooklyn girl is uplifting audiences and making history as one of the youngest composers for the New York Philharmonic.Grace Moore is a seventh-grade student at Poly Prep in Dyker Heights. She¡¯s also soaring to new heights with her passion for classical music.Moore describes herself as quiet and shy, but when it comes to her music, she is powerful. In October, Moore had a world premiere of a piece she created for the NY Philharmonic. It was the music she composed.Moore is a participant of the New York Philharmonic¡¯s Very Young Composers program¡ª a program that teaches people as young as eight to create music, they have the some of best musicians in the world perform it.Moore¡¯s talent is extraordinary.Her love of music started at the age of two when her mom bought her a piano. (KGTV) ¡ª U.S. citizens traveling to Europe will have to be mindful of new visa rules after 2021.Starting on Jan. 21, 2021, Americans will need a ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System) visa when traveling to a European Schengen-zone country, which includes Germany, France, Spain, Sweden, and Italy. Though, travelers heading to Ireland or the United Kingdom will not need the new visa.The visa will cost a one-time fee of about €7, or about to , according to a release from the European Union. The move is meant to improve security, "to avoid any further problems with illegal migration and terrorism," the ETIAS visa website says.Currently, U.S. citizens traveling to Europe for 90 days or less do not need a visa. Eventually, the new visa will be required for short-stay travel as well.To apply for a visa, Americans will need a valid passport, an email account, and a credit or debit card. Passports must be valid for three months beyond the period of an individual's intended stay.Americans will be required to have a ETIAS visa valid for three years when entering European Schengen-zone countries.
