Walmart has a plan to help eliminate the stress shoppers get when waiting in long lines.The company’s new system is called “Check Out with Me.” First, a Walmart associate scans your items with their special, mobile device. Then, they’ll swipe your credit card right there, before handing you the receipt.The process eliminates having to wait in line for a cashier.  Marketing professor Darrin Duber-Smith at MSU Denver says consumers want options, and the main option they want is convenience. He says two companies in constant competition are Walmart and Amazon.Amazon recently announced their plans to open 3,000 brick and mortar stores-- that will be cashierless—by 2021.As for Walmart’s new checkout program, the company plans to position workers in the busiest sections of the store. EL CAJON, Calif. (KGTV) - The City of El Cajon is days away from unveiling their new million dollar animal shelter to the public and gave 10News a sneak peek on Tuesday.The new shelter is double the size of the current facility, which was built in the 1950's, and features state-of-the-art amenities.The city believes it will dramatically improve the adoption experience for East County residents."With more room comes more ability to provide the standard of care expected for these types of animals," said Dirk Epperson, Director of Public Works for the City of El Cajon.The facility has a medical center and operating room as well as a full-service grooming station.There will also be several 'get to know you rooms' where potential adopters can get one-on-one time with the animals.Epperson says efficiency is a theme in the new facility, making it easier and more environmentally-friendly for shelter employees to do their jobs. The grand opening is Saturday, June 2 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m and adoption fees will be offered for all animals.The shelters will be closed from Tuesday, May 29 through Friday, June 1. However, special arrangements can be made for residents needing to drop off stray dogs or claim a pet.   1250

Dolly Parton spent Thursday at Vanderbilt's Children's Hospital to celebrate a deeply personal milestone. Her niece, Hannah Dennison, turns 30 years old on Sunday — a birthday Parton wasn't always sure she'd be able to celebrate."Twenty-six years ago is when Hannah was diagnosed with leukemia, and for five years we didn't know if we'd be keeping her or not," Parton told a room full of doctors, nurses, patients and families. "But Hannah now stands here as our chemo hero. She shows that miracles do happen with good care, great doctors and great nurses."Parton met some of those doctors and nurses last fall when she visited the hospital to release her first-ever children's album. During that visit, she decided to donate million to the hospital."They took such good care of her and just looking at the little faces of the kids going through this and the parents who suffer so much as well; it's just touching and moving," she said. "If you're in a position where you can do something, you should do something."In return, the Children's Hospital dedicated it's second floor butterfly garden to Dennison on Thursday."Now that we have Hannah's butterfly garden, we may come up and do little shows now and then and bring some joy to the kids," Parton said. EL CAJON, CA (KGTV) - Students at a private school in El Cajon are scheduled to return to class next month.Parents of children at Foothills Christian Middle School got a letter from the school over the weekend outlining their re-opening plan.According to the letter, the school will re-open September 8th.A local mom contacted 10News concerned about the plan. She didn't give her name because she doesn't want retaliation against her daughter. She was surprised at the September return date."If schools could be open, I would send her to school, if the county said we could do that, I would do that, but they're saying we can't go to school and we should be wearing masks," said the mom.According to the letter, there is a five step plan for reopening:*Regular COVID-19 self-check screening questions*Temperature readings prior to entering campus*Hand hygiene*Environmental Cleaning/Sanitization and Refillable Water Bottle Stations*Face masks/coveringsThe letter states that face coverings will not be required, but will be optional on campus. It goes on to list several reasons, including:*There is a lack of evidence that wearing a face mask prevents COVID-19 transmission in children*Children are not typically trained in their use and there is potential for increased risk of infection with improper mask use*Masks can be irritating and may lead to increased touching of face and eyes*It is impractical for a child to wear a mask properly for the duration of the school dayThe mom who contacted us says this will send mixed messages to her child."What we're telling her at home is completely different than, this is completely opposite of everything we're doing. So it's shocking to her, she's like why wouldn't I wear a mask," said the mom.The letter states wearing a mask will be the personal choice of students or faculty, but there may be some occasions where face coverings are required, like field trips."I wouldn't want her to wear a mask at school and be peer pressured not to, or be made fun of for wearing it," said the mom.As far as social distancing, the letter only states, "we will do our best to encourage physical distancing."The letter asks parents and their child to sign it, agreeing to the terms before returning to school.According to CA's governor, counties on the state's COVID-19 monitoring list cannot open schools for in-person instruction.
